Investigation of TUBITAK middle and high school students' chemistry research projects according to different variables

dc.description.abstractThis study aims to examine the chemistry projects that reached the finals in the TÜBİTAK 2204-A High School Students Research Projects Competition and the TÜBİTAK 2204-B Middle School Students Research Projects Competition held in 2020, 2021, and 2022. The projects are examined in terms of thematic areas, scientific language, purpose, methodology, population and sample, experimental materials, findings, conclusions, and recommendations. The research was executed in line with the document analysis. The data were analyzed with the descriptive analysis. When a total of 39 secondary and 47 high school projects were evaluated thematically, it was seen that the thematic field of Materials and Nanotechnology was preferred the most in both groups. When the studies were evaluated in terms of other criteria, it was revealed that the researches were mostly followed in accordance with the scientific research steps. However, it was seen that all of these steps were not clearly mentioned in the project summaries, and in some projects not all phases were included. Therefore, when the project summaries are read, this situation causes some problems regarding the full understanding and evaluation of the studies. It was determined that while the suggestions were not mentioned in high school projects, suggestions were generally included in secondary school projects in accordance with the results. In order to eliminate the problems identified in the reports, it can be suggested that teachers and students should participate in more educational activities related to scientific research and project-based education, and improve themselves by making more practices
dc.description.abstractBu araştırma 2020-2021-2022 yıllarında düzenlenmiş TÜBİTAK 2204-A Lise Öğrencileri Araştırma Projeleri Yarışması ve TÜBİTAK 2204-B Ortaokul Öğrencileri Araştırma Projeleri Yarışması’nda finale kalmış olan kimya projelerini tematik alan, bilimsel dil, amaç, yöntem, evren ve örneklem, deneysel materyal, bulgular, sonuçlar ve öneriler yönünden incelenmesi amacıyla yapılmıştır. Araştırma doküman analizi modeli doğrultusunda yürütülmüştür. Veriler betimsel analiz yaklaşımıyla incelenmiştir. İncelenen toplam 39 ortaokul ve 47 lise projesi tematik açıdan değerlendirildiğinde her iki grupta da en çok Malzeme ve Nanoteknoloji tematik alanının tercih edildiği görülmüştür. Çalışmalar diğer kriterler açısından değerlendirildiğinde ise araştırmalarda çoğunlukla bilimsel araştırma basamaklarına uygun bir yol izlendiği ortaya çıkmıştır. Fakat proje özetlerinde bu basamakların hepsinden açık bir şekilde bahsedilmediği, bazı projelerde tüm aşamalara yer verilmediği görülmüştür. Dolayısıyla bu durum, proje özetleri okunduğunda yapılan çalışmaların tam olarak anlaşılması ve değerlendirilmesi hususunda bazı problemlere sebep olmaktadır. Önerilere lise projelerinde genellikle değinilmezken ortaokul projelerinde genellikle sonuçlarla uyumlu bir şekilde önerilere yer verildiği belirlenmiştir. Raporlarda belirlenen sorunların giderilmesi için öğretmen ve öğrencilerin bilimsel araştırma ve proje tabanlı eğitim ile ilgili daha fazla eğitici faaliyete katılması, daha fazla uygulama yaparak kendilerini geliştirmeleri önerilebilir.
