One of the possibilities that people use to get integrated with environment is the ability of motion. In this regard, the term walkability gains importance. By creating walkable environments; it's possible to provide pedestrians especially disadvantaged minorities - such as handicapped and elderly, parents with baby kids - with safer and comfortable environments; it's also important for residents to have good life and to mix in public activities. It's essential to know what environmental aspects tempt people to walk in order to form a walkable environment. Scientific researches with fundamental principals and findings suggest some closely related criteria that affect walkability. However the relative importance of those criteria are being argued. Each and every city has unique characteristics with its' residents and spaces. Every research made, would make a remarkable contribution to its' literature with conclusions and findings. Through this research, a method is being suggested which helps to determine the aspects that affect walkability in Tekirdag city center where there had no previously made research, and which helps to assess pedestrian movement systematically and objectively via mathematics and observations This is an experimental reasearch in which space syntax analysis method has been utilized to determine pedestrian dense areas and to understand how urban configuration affects pedestrian movement; observational analysis method has been utilized to determine and assess factors that affect walkability; counting method has been utilized to determine density of pedestrian movement. Through conclusional findings, criteria that affect walkability brought to forward and the relation between the importance of pedestrian movement and aspects of urban configuration and the pedestrian movement has been proven. This approach is advised to be utilized as a guidance in assessing walkability capacities of current transportation routes.
