Özet

The equivalent of the concept of space in the city is public spaces. They are unifying spaces where the citizens spend time, socialize, live their daily lives outside their homes, and are valuable areas for the citizens. It is possible to see the natural, cultural or historical features of the city in these spaces. These valuable areas, which are used by the residents of the city, are preferred as long as they are of high quality. Some criteria are used to evaluate the quality of space in the area. The said criteria are made according to the space quality criteria scheme set forth by the Project for Public Space (PPS). According to the scheme, the answer to the question “What makes a space successful” reflects the success of a public space. In this context; the Kilitbahir Promenade designed in the immediate vicinity of Kilitbahir Castle, which is a part of the history of the city of Çanakkale, was chosen as the material. The quality of place in the promenade was questioned. Evaluations were made according to the criteria of sustainability for activities and uses, accessibility for access and connections, safety for comfort and image, greenery, attractiveness and maintenance, diversity for sociability and being in relationships. Suggestions were made for applications that were found to be negative.
