Sonolytic-vapor stripping removal of perchloroethylene (PCE) from water was investigated in bench-scale batch experiments. Sonication is an advanced oxidation process, and its application in water treatment concerns the degradation of recalcitrant organic contaminants in aqueous solutions. Vapor stripping is a mass transfer process involving the removal of volatile organic compounds from liquid phase to gas phase. Experimental results in this study demonstrated that combining ultrasound (US) and vapor stripping (VS) simultaneously, the removal of PCE increased beyond the additive effect of US and VS treatments.
