Öğe Genomic Prediction Accuracies for Growth and Carcass Traits in a Brangus Heifer Population(MDPI, 2023) Peters, Sunday O.; Kızılkaya, Kadir; Sinecen, Mahmut; Mestav, Burcu; Thiruvenkadan, Aranganoor K.; Thomas, Milton G.The predictive abilities and accuracies of genomic best linear unbiased prediction (GBLUP) and the Bayesian (BayesA, BayesB, BayesC and Lasso) genomic selection (GS) methods for economically important growth (birth, weaning, and yearling weights) and carcass (depth of rib fat, apercent intramuscular fat and longissimus muscle area) traits were characterized by estimating the linkage disequilibrium (LD) structure in Brangus heifers using single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNP) markers. Sharp declines in LD were observed as distance among SNP markers increased. The application of the GBLUP and the Bayesian methods to obtain the GEBV for growth and carcass traits within k-means and random clusters showed that k-means and random clustering had quite similar heritability estimates, but the Bayesian methods resulted in the lower estimates of heritability between 0.06 and 0.21 for growth and carcass traits compared with those between 0.21 and 0.35 from the GBLUP methodologies. Although the prediction ability of the GBLUP and the Bayesian methods were quite similar for growth and carcass traits, the Bayesian methods overestimated the accuracies of GEBV because of the lower estimates of heritability of growth and carcass traits. However, GBLUP resulted in accuracy of GEBV for growth and carcass traits that parallels previous reports.Öğe Investigation of the morphological and color changes of damaged green plums during storage time using digital image processing techniques(Gazi Universitesi, 2015) Sinecen, Mahmut; Temizkan, Riza; Caner, CengizThe quality of green plums is directly affected by the uniformity of color and morphological characteristics which can be changed during harvest, handling, transportation and storage until they reach consumers. The determination of these characteristics is possible with image processing techniques. The advantages of this technique are being a simple, non-destructive and inexpensive methods that don’t require a complex apparatus. In this study, green plums are damaged at different rates (3 mm, 5 mm and 10 mm) by a texture analyzer and images are obtained at different storage periods. Non-damaged fruits were considered as control. Morphological and color features of these images are determined by using image processing technique with Matlab® Image Processing Toolbox and the findings are compared among groups. In particular, the 10 mm damaging rate showed statistically significant differences for most of the morphological and color features (p<0.05). Therefore, the results showed that image processing technique is usable to classify the green plums according to damage rate. © 2015, Gazi University Eti Mahallesi. First of all, a graph showing the changes in the borders of Ottoman Empire with respect to years was obtained. Then, the reigns of the Sultans were shown on that graphic. Thus, we have analyzed the graphic in order to depict the five periods as to how the borders changed respectively. Finally, we have analyzed to see whether there is a significant relationship between the changes of the borders with respect to years and the reigns of the Sultans
