Öğe Developing English language teacher special field proficiencies through lesson study(Discover, 2025) Ileriturk, Duygu; Kincal, Remzi Y.This study examines the factors affecting the development of specialized proficiencies among English language teachers via a Lesson Study methodology. This action research involved four secondary school English teachers in Turkey. While many studies have focused on general teaching practices, there is a notable gap in research specifically exploring how LS contributes to the development of specialized proficiencies in English language instruction within the Turkish context. This study addresses that gap by offering context-specific insights. The low distribution of eighty percent of the selected class included both students and language teachers who volunteered. The criterion was a class with students of varying achievement levels. So, the study’s participants included four female English language teachers from a secondary school, whose native language was Turkish, the students in the class where the research was implemented, an administrator, and a researcher. The students are included in 16 male and 18 female students. The research included observational evaluation criteria, researcher journals, audio recordings, and semi-structured interviews with educators and students to gather qualitative data. The research sought to strengthen teaching methods in planning, language skill development, evaluation, and professional growth through five iterative cycles of planning, action, observation, and reflection. Research demonstrates that collaborative lesson planning, varied and student-centered instructional strategies, and the incorporation of real-world applications markedly improved teacher effectiveness and student involvement. Educators gained advantages from self-evaluation, peer critique, and professional collaboration, resulting in enhanced pedagogical tactics and classroom methodologies. Students exhibited increased enthusiasm and engagement, especially in activities customized to their preferences. Notwithstanding these achievements, we recognized limitations like inadequate planning abilities, dependence on conventional teaching techniques, and a restricted emphasis on emotional learning goals. Rectifying these deficiencies is crucial for ongoing professional development. Thus, this research advances the field by demonstrating how LS can serve as a practical and reflective framework for enhancing both teaching quality and student engagement in language learning. This research highlights the effectiveness of LS as a framework that promotes the growth of both educators and learners. It underscores the significance of peer collaboration, reflective practices, and innovative methodologies in tackling educational difficulties and enhancing professional competencies. © The Author(s) 2025.Öğe Development of a digital peer-feedback tool for clinical skills training: a pilot study with second-year medical students(Nature Portfolio, 2025) Yurdal, Mustafa Onur; Kincal, Remzi Y.Providing structured feedback in medical education is essential for skill development. However, limitations such as increasing student numbers, reducing trainer availability, and a lack of systematic feedback hinder effective learning. Digital peer-feedback tools offer a potential solution by enabling interactive and scalable assessment. This study introduces Medifeeding, a video-based peer-feedback digital tool designed to enhance clinical skills training among medical students. This study employed an exploratory convergent mixed-methods pilot feasibility design. Medifeeding was developed following Moonen's 3-Space model and tested with 31 s-year medical students at & Ccedil;anakkale Onsekiz Mart University. Data sources: a post-use online form (educational benefit yes/no, a forced ranking of 10 attributes, and a 5-point overall rating), semistructured interviews (n = 24), and one focus group (n = 5). Quantitative analyses included frequency analysis, the Friedman test with Kendall's W and Wilcoxon signed-rank tests (Holm-adjusted). Qualitative data were analyzed thematically (Strauss's framework). Strands were integrated in a joint display to generate meta-inferences on acceptability and usability. 90% (28/31) reported educational benefit. The overall rating averaged 4.13/5 (90% rated 4-5). For the feature ranking, the Friedman test showed an overall difference (**chi 2(9) = 86.162, p < 0.001; Kendall's W = 0.309). The highest-priority attribute was 'educationally beneficial' (mean rank approximate to 2.13; median 1), followed by 'offering a different experience' (approximate to 4.35) and 'digitally user-friendly' (approximate to 4.84); post-hoc Wilcoxon (Holm) confirmed multiple pairwise differences. Qualitatively, six themes emerged: (1) educational benefits, (2) peer interaction, (3) moderation and trust, (4) new usage scenarios, (5) awareness and motivation, and (6) technical infrastructure. Students highlighted self-assessment and peer learning; concerns included misinformation and technical limitations. Gamification and AI-assisted moderation were suggested as potential improvements. This study underscores the exciting possibilities of Medifeeding as a digital peer-feedback system that can greatly aid the clinical skill mastery of medical students. In this pilot with second-year students, participants reported educational benefit and positive usability while also noting concerns about the validity of peer reviews, the risk of misinformation, and variable engagement. Overall, our findings indicate that Medifeeding is a potential tool to support structured peer feedback in clinical skills training; however, larger and longer-term studies are needed to evaluate its impact on performance and learning outcomes, usability, and feedback validation.Öğe Effect of cooperative learning method to student achievement in science teaching(Hacettepe Univ, 2007) Kincal, Remzi Y.; Erguel, Remziye; Timur, SerkanStudent-based teaching approach has superseded teacher-based one in the science teaching. Hence, new methods must be used in teaching. Cooperative learning is one of the methods in which students learn by trying and experiencing themselves. They also become more active. The goal of this research is the effect of Force and Motion subject on student success, which takes place Meeting of Force and Motion-Energy unit at primary school class 7. The research is conducted at two primary schools, class 7. There is a test and control group in the research where pretest and posttest is used. In the test group there are 80 students and in the control group there are 74 students. Classical method is used in the control group while cooperative method is used in the research group. The research took 9 weeks. In the research it is perceived that in the science lesson at primary school class 7 when teaching Force and Motion subject, cooperative-learning is more effective due to making student more successful at knowledge, understanding, practice and general level than classical method.Öğe Elementary School Principals’ Level of Practicing Democratic Values(SAGE Publications Inc., 2005) Kincal, Remzi Y.; Isik, Halil[No abstract available]Öğe Investigating the relationship between formal operational thinking skills and science achievement of 7th and 8th grade primary school students(Common Ground Publishing, 2009) Yazgan, Akan Deniz; Kincal, Remzi Y.In this study, it's aimed to measure and compare the primary school seventh and eightht grade students formal operational thinking abilities.
