The Determination and the Evaluations on the Social and Economic Structure of Tenedos in 1840

The aim of this study is to reveal data about the social and economic structure of Tenedos in 1840 and to make some observations on Tenedos through these data. The sources of this study compose of two temettuat defter. Their numbers are 16036 and 16037 respectively. In this study, economic and social structures of households in Tenedos such as wealth, income and tax burden have been analyzed. Agriculture, viniculture and animal husbandry also have been dealt with. In addition; names, titles and nicknames of household heads have been shown in this study. Tenedos consisted of only one centre where the Greeks and the Turks lived together. The geographic and climatic conditions of the island was only suitable for the viniculture.
