Özet
This brief chapter introduces a couple of “celebrities” of the ancient Bozburun Peninsula, namely the Khersonesos, which was one of the former nests to the Karian folk since the 5th century B.C. Squeezed between the rising mighty powers of the Hellenistic world, the Peninsula fell into clutches of Rhodes for more than two centuries during which everyday life of the dwellers changed in many aspects. The famous figures (the contestants who participated the agones, basically in sports, as well as the combatants, metaphorically) are commemorated with this paper, through a literature survey (either recorded in the ancient accounts or the Greek corpus epigraphicum) while their places are sought in cross contexts. Admittedly, the names (overwhelmingly the local elites, ?Ó ????? or the Rhodioi) must have been a source of pride not only amongst the cognates but the entire community sharing the same land often skipped geo-politically or recognized as a terra-incognita. Such instances can underscore the significance of the ancient perioikic communities and can evidence that they are the supplementary occasions for comprehending the countryside’s role in the dejure or sustained power of the centers, under the discussions of the active urban and passive khora and their mutual functions, for the flourishment of any territorial piece, from polity to social life. © 2020 by Nova Science Publishers, Inc.
