dc.description.abstractGünümüzün hızla küreselleşen uluslararası ilişkiler sistemi içerisinde sayıları giderek azalan kapalı (sosyalist) devletler mevcuttur. Çalışmanın ilgi alanı olan Asya uluslararası politikası gündeme geldiğinde kapalı rejimler deyince akla ilk gelen başlıca iki örnek vardır; Kuzey Kore ve Myanmar. Bu devletlerin yakın tarihleri ve çağdaş konumları incelendiğinde büyük devletlerin bu ülkeler üzerinde yoğun bir şekilde nüfuz kurma politikası izledikleri görülür. Myanmar?da neredeyse tarihinin ilk dönemlerinden başlayarak günümüze kadar sürekli olarak büyük devletlerin rekabetine tanık ola gelmiştir. Tarihsel sürecin değişen koşulları içinde sahip olduğu tarımsal potansiyeli, doğal kaynakları ve stratejik konumundan kaynaklanan önemi nedeniyle soğuk savaş dönemi ve sonrası Myanmar, sürekli olarak büyük devlet rekabetinin (sürtüşmesinin/nüfuz kurma çabasının) adeta merkezi olmuştur. Bu çerçevede tezin temel varsayımı, 4 Ocak 1948?de İngiltere?den bağımsızlığını kazanmasıyla yeni bir siyasi sürece giren Myanmar?ın siyasi, iktisadi ve askeri bakımdan güçsüz olmasından yararlanan büyük güçlerin Myanmar iç ve dış politikasına nasıl bir etki yaptığıdır. Böylece tez çalışmasının sonuç kısmında Myanmar?ın Güneydoğu Asya bölgesinde bölgesel güçler kıskacında olmasının nedenleri açıklanarak önemine değinilmektedir. dc.description.abstractFew closed (socialist) governments still exist today in the organization of world international relations front. Yet, their systems have been transforming day by day into today?s international system which is rapidly getting globalized. When Asian international policy, the related subject of the study, is considered, two major cases of mentioned countries come to mind. These are North Korea and Myanmar. Following the analysis of late history and contemporary location of these governments, it is seen that great powers intensively implement a dominating policy over these countries. Myanmar has witnessed the competition of great powers continuously starting from almost the first historic period till today. In the changing conditions of the history, Myanmar has become the centre of great powers? competition (their friction and struggling for dominating) during the cold war period and post cold war period because of its importance in agricultural potential, natural resources and its strategic position. Within this scope, the basic assumption of the thesis is to investigate how great powers that try to benefit from the advantage of political, financial and military weaknesses of Myanmar which took yet another political turn upon having gained its independence from England in 4th January 1948, have affected Myanmar?s domestic and foreign policy. In this regard, the result part of this paper puts forward the reasons why Myanmar is in the pincer of regional powers in the South-eastern Asia and attempt to discuss them in detail with different perspectives.
