dc.description.abstractSummary (Turkish) Bu çalışma özellikle üniversite ortamında kısa hikayeleri öğretmeyi, öğretim elemanları için kullanılabilecek çeşitli metodları ve bunların İngilizcenin kısa hikayeler yoluyla öğretimine yönelik olarak nasıl kullanılabileceğini göstermeyi amaçlar. Kısa hikayelerin tarihi gelişimini, bunların çeşitleri ve genel edebi özellikleri, değişik metodların bu alanda kullanımı ve uygulanışını göstermek amacıyla bir örnek ders izler. Öğretim elemanlarının ve öğrencilerin bu konudaki yaklaşımını öğrenmek üzere bir anket yapılmış ve sonuçları (cevapları) tablolaştırılıp değerlendirilmiştir. 8u verilere bağlı olarak, Dazı sonuçlar çıkarılmış ve kısa hikayelerin daha etkili bir biçimde nasıl öğretilebileceğine ilişkin öneriler getirilmiştir. En önemli sonuçlardan biri şudur: Bütün kısa hikayeler öğrenciler için uygun değildir. Bu yüzden dikkatle seçilmelidir. Ön bilgiler ve ana tema tamamen açıklanmalı ( netleştirilmeli ), ders için ekstra materyaller hazırlanmalı, ödevler verilmeli ve son olarak öğrenciler kelime oyunları konusunda daha iyi yetiştirilmelidirler.
dc.description.abstractII Abstract This study concerns the teaching of short stories, particularly in a university environment, and aims to show the variety of methods available to the lecturer and how these may be effectively linked to the teaching of English through short stories. Following an overview of the historical development of short stories, their different types and common literary elements, a survey of the various methods by which these can be presented to the students has been made and a sample lesson included to show their application. A questionnaire was used to learn the attitudes of lecturers and students on this subject and their answers were tabulated and assessed. Based on this, it was possible to draw several conclusions and make suggestions as to how short stories might better be taught in a more informed and efficient manner. Most importantly, not all stories ars suitable for the students so they need to be chosen carefully; the background and major plot points need to be fully brought cut: extra materials prepared for lessons and homework, and finally, the students should be better educated about word-attack skills.
