Economic Value Identification Using The Individual Travel Cost Method: Example Of The Troia Historic National Park

| dc.description.abstract | Monetization of environmental assets without economic value, like national parks, ensures a more conscious approach is displayed by users to these assets. This situation has an important share in transferring these assets to future generations without destruction. To ensure these gains, the determination of the economic value due to use of the Troia Historical National Park (THNP) for recreation and tourism, and comparison of this valuation with investment amounts, forms the aim of this study. With this aim, 450 random visitors to the THNP were administered surveys within the scope of the travel cost method in face-to-face interviews. Survey data were analyzed with the linear regression test in the SPSS 15.0 statistical program. With this, the value of the recreational use and tourism was specified and the correlations between determinant independent variables with the dimension of demand were revealed. The result of the analysis found the logarithmic function was significant at the 1% level. It appeared that the independent variables explained 70.2% of the dependent variable. According to the F test results, the model was statistically significant at 53.58% level. Additionally, according to the analysis, the consumer surplus value of the THNP was calculated as 192,075,466 TL. However, the annual budget for the THNP was identified as 2,219,464 TL (approximately 200 times less). This indicates that with the annual consumer surplus value obtained in the study, it will be possible to finance the social and economic development of the historic area by evaluating larger and more concrete investments on a sectoral basis. | |
