Özet
Objective: To evaluate the effects of urinary incontinence on female sexual functions. Material and Methods: The study included a total of sexually active 78 female patients with the complaint of urinary incontinence and were diagnosed as stress urinary incontinence. For assessment of sexual functions, the short form of Pelvic Organ Prolapsed / Urinary Incontinence Sexual Questionnaire (PISQ-12) was filled out by interview with each patient. The questionnaire was made up of 12 questions and answers were graded on a 5-point Likert Scale from "never" to "always". Results: The mean age of 78 the participants was 55.87±10.64 years (range 24-65). The rates of post-menopausal and premenopausal state were 70% (n=54) and 30% (n=24) respectively. The mean duration of incontinence was 6,20±5,10 (1-26) year. We found that the mean of total scores on PISQ--12 questionnaire was 13,70±11,14. These low results indicated that sexual functions deteriorated in patients who had urinary incontinence. The PISQ --12 score of the postmenopausal patients (11,91±3,73) was less than that of premenopausal patients (14,59±2,27) (p<0.05). In addition, as the patient's age and the number of parity increased, it seemed that the amount of deterioration in sexual dysfunction also increased. Conclusion: Female sexual function is negatively affected by urinary incontinence. Copyright © 2012 by Türkiye Klinikleri.
