This research was performed to investigate the role of the father in maintaining and supporting breastfeeding. This cross-sectional study was conducted by face-to-face interviews with 250 fathers who applied to Biga 70th Year Family Health Center between September 1, 2020 and December 31, 2020. As a data collection tool; "Individual Identification Form" and "The Partner Breastfeeding Influence Scale" were used. Ethical approval was obtained from Çanakkale Onsekiz Mart University Clinical Research Ethics Committee and institutional permission from Çanakkale Provincial Health Directorate for the implementation of the study. In the analysis of data; descriptive statics, chi-square, Kolmogoroov Smirnov test, ManWhitney U test, Kruskal-Wallis H test and Spearman rank difference correlation coeffficient were used. In the study, the total mean score of the fathers' effect on breastfeeding scale was found as 125,93±26,43 (Min:55-Max:184). It was determined that the participants got the highest sub-dimension of "understanding breasfeeding" and the lowest score of "readiness" sub-dimension. When The Partner Breastfeeding Influence Scale score was compared with some variables; it was found that fathers who are primary and secondary school graduates have a lower effect on breastfeding compared to other education groups, whose 20-30 age group, who are civil servants, whose work day and night, who have a higher income than expenditure, whose live in a nuclear family, whose live in the district center, who have been married for less than 5 years, whose spouses are civil servants, whose spouses gave birth cesarean section, who have one child, who have a boy and who have a child of 13-18 months have a higher effect on breastfeeding. As a result of the study, it was determined that the father had a great influence on the continuation and support of breastfeeding. Awareness should be increased by giving breastfeeding trainings to both mothers and fathers. It is recommended that more work be done on this subject.
