Özet
Following the first planning studies carried out in 1949, the rate of city growth that developed parallel with increase in population in Canakkale became an important pressure in terms of landsuse. In this study that includes the change produced by the enlargement of settlement areas on delta and surface of plain, slopes and surrounding plateaux areas, an increase of about %12.92 is calculated during the period of the last 44 years between 1962 and 2006. This increase corresponds to a total change of 7.78 km(2) in inhabited areas that have been opened to public improvements. Nevertheless, the change is not the same for each morphological unit, and the surface of the plain comprises more than 65% of the growth. The annual average ratios of %3.43 ve %12.36 were determined for slope and plateaux areas, respectively. Most of this increase in city development is underwent by the agricultural areas and pastures in vicinty of the Karacaoren Village to the north and steep slopes where housing estates are found near the Canakkale Onsekiz Mart University to the south-southeast.
