iiiABSTRACTThe migration fact during the process of being urbanized in big cities is animportat result of the instabilities among the regions which appear because of theeconomical instabilities. This instability among the regions causes populationmovements from undeveloped regions to developed ones in the country. Thesepopulation movements bring many problems in big cities which have no planningsyet. One of the most important problems which effect the process of well plannedorganization negatively is shanty towns.of the city<ÕOGÕ]WHSH ZKLFK LV P\ VWXG\ DUHD LV SODFHG RQ WKH 6RXWK-westand by the Seyitgazi, Afyon, Antalya highway. According to the results of thepopulation census in 2000, 8964 people were available in the neighbourhood . Thereare 3270 houses and 163 working places. Neighbourhood is geomorphologicallyplaced on a slightly hilly area. Neighbourhood is effected by the Middle Anatolianclimate type.In this study, the physical enviromental characteristics such as climate,geomorphologic characteristics, hydrology etc. of WKH QHLJKERXUKRRG RI <ÕOGÕ]WHSHWKHSKDVHVZKLFK(VNLúHKLUDQGWKHQHLJKERXUKRRGRI<ÕOGÕ]WHSHKDYHKDGGXULQJWKHprocess of urbanization and the factors which have effected the phases were foundout.In the formation of this neighbourhood, the dense population movementsafter 1960 have been effective and the characteristics of the neighbourhood haveoccured gradually in this period. The millitary appartments which were built inaround 1975-1976, are placed in the border of the neighbourhood and it effected thedevelopment of the neighbourhood. The other factor which effect the development isthat the neichbourhood is founded by the road to Seyitgazi. This situation has alsoeffected demographic structure of the neighbourhood. Immigrators who come fromboth the town and the village of Seyitgazi are the biggest part of the immigrators.ivNowadays, the process of urban development of the city and theQHLJKERXUKRRG LV FRQWLQXLQJ TXÕWH TXLFNO\ 7KHVH FKDQJHV ZKLFK DSSHDU LQ WKHphysical and social structure of this neighbourhood are due to ?UrbanTransformation Plan? , which has been planned to apply on the neighbourhood of% \ NGHUH ZKLFK LV D QHDU QHLJKERXUKRRG RI <ÕOGÕ]WHSH DQG (VWUDP WUDP V\VWHPwhich started in 2004 in the city. These developments have effected esspecially thephysical structure of this neighbourhood, the number of the flats in appartments andtheir qualities. Today, with the increase of the numbers of the flats in appartments,the developments of the neighbourhood is continuing vertically. In the historicalHYROXWLRQ RI VHWWOLQJ LQ (VNLúHKLU DQG LQ WKLV QHLJKERXUKRRG VHYHUDO IDFWRUV KDYHbeen effective as mentioned above. The city and the neighbourhood have gone into astable periodor a quick process of development occasionally. Meanwhile, they havekept their demographic development with dense migrations and they have survivedby adapting the changing conditions up to now.Despite all of those developments, both country and region governors withcivilian society organizations and inhabitants of the neighbourhood have importantduties in solving essential problems hich they have in the neighbourhood.
