Özet

In this study, possibility of iron concentrate production from a weathered silica ore with high iron content by gravity and magnetic separation methods were investigated in detail. The sample used in this study was obtained from Canakkale region. First of all, physical, chemical, and mineralogical properties of the sample were determined. Then, the sample was reduced to -1 mm particle size, and scrubbed at 50% solid ratio and 1000 rpm in order to eliminate the cementation of the iron containing minerals in the ore structure which was observed in the mineralogical examinations. After the scrubbing process, the samples were classified into three different particle size fractions (1×0.5 mm, 0.5times;0.212 mm, and 0.212times;0.038 mm). Next, a laboratory-scale Wilfley type shaking table and a wet high intensity magnetic separator were used to increase Fe2O3 content of the ore at these fractions. The gravity and magnetic separation experiments included rougher, cleaner and scavenger circuits. Finally, optimum enrichment parameters were determined, and a flow chart was proposed for the processing of the ore. The results obtained from this study were evaluated in terms of both technical and economical applicability of the gravity and magnetic separation methods for the production of iron concentrate from high iron containing silicate ores.
