Evaluation of Biography Text Genre in Terms of Authors’ Styles: The Example of “Tek Adam” and “Bozkurt”

dc.description.abstractThe aim of this study is to evaluate the perspectives and styles of the authors in the biography text genre through the expressions they use. Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk has always been a leader whose life and thoughts have always been curious and wanted to be understood due to the period he lived in, his military genius, his statesmanship and the way he was perceived in the world. The two works "Tek Adam" and "Bozkurt", which are discussed in this study, have been the subject of discussions and criticism from time to time. Therefore, it was deemed necessary to analyze them in terms of the expressions used by the authors while describing Atatürk. Document analysis, one of the qualitative methods, was used in the study. Descriptive analysis was applied to the relevant sections of the analyzed biographies by taking the expressions prepared within the framework of sub-questions as criteria. As a result, "expressions describing his actions", which can best reflect Atatürk's personality and allow the author to remain in the background, were frequently encountered in both works. However, while in Tek Adam, it is also important how Atatürk is evaluated by others, in Bozkurt, it was determined that the author preferred to include some reflections arising from Atatürk's own world of feeling and sometimes his personality [TR] Bu çalışmanın amacı biyografi metin türünde yazarların başvurdukları ifadeler üzerinden eserde ele aldıkları kişilere bakış açılarının ve üsluplarının değerlendirilmesidir. Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk; yaşadığı dönem, askerî dehası, devlet adamlığı, dünyada algılanış şekli dolayısıyla; yaşamı ve düşünceleri daima merak edilen ve anlaşılmak istenen bir lider olmuştur. Bu çalışmada ele alınan “Tek Adam” ve “Bozkurt” adlı iki eser zaman zaman tartışmalara ve eleştirilere konu olmuş eserlerdir. Bu yüzden yazarların Atatürk’ü anlatırken kullandığı ifadeler açısından incelenmeleri gerekli görülmüştür. Araştırmada nitel yöntemlerden doküman analizi kullanılmıştır. Analiz edilen biyografilerin ilgili bölümleri alt sorular çerçevesinde hazırlanan ifadeler ölçüt alınarak betimsel analiz uygulanmıştır. Neticede Atatürk’ün şahsını en iyi yansıtabilecek ve yazarın geri planda kalmasına olanak sağlayacak “eylemlerini anlatan ifadeler”e iki eserde de sık bir şekilde rastlanmıştır. Ancak Tek Adam adlı eserde Atatürk’ün başkaları tarafından nasıl değerlendirildiği de önemli görülürken Bozkurt adlı eserde Atatürk’ün kendi his dünyası ve zaman zaman kişiliğinden kaynaklanan birtakım yansımalara yer verilmesinin yazar tarafından daha çok tercih edildiği tespit edilmiştir
