Özet

In this study, some parameters of plasma biochemistry (glucose, cholesterol, triglyceride, uric acid, total protein, urea-nitrogen (BUN), creatinine, and urea) and the hematocrit value (PCV) were investigated in clinically healthy a total of 20 Natrix natrix (the grass snake) individuals distributed in Canakkale and they were evaluated according to sex and the pre-breeding and breeding periods. In conclusion, both the female and male individuals of the species showed an increase in hematocrit, glucose, and cholesterol values in the breeding period as compared with the pre-breeding period, whereas the values of urea-nitrogen and urea only increased in the male individuals but decreased in the female individuals. When the total protein value was examined, it showed no variation in the male individuals in the pre-breeding and breeding periods, while an increase in the total protein value was detected in the female individuals in the breeding period. On the other hand, the creatinine value was determined to have increased in the female individuals but fallen in the male individuals in the breeding period as compared with the pre-breeding period.
