dc.description.abstractIntroduction: This study aimed to evaluate the knowledge level of nursing students on the practices of hand hygiene in light of the increasing rates of healthcare-associated infections (HAIs) and to form the basis of the training program planned to be conducted about hand hygiene. Methods: The research was carried out in the Department of Nursing of a School of Health. A questionnaire consisting of 45 questions was used to collect the data. The questionnaire form consisted of two parts: the “Participant Information Form” and “Hand Hygiene Knowledge Evaluation Form”. The “questionnaire form included questions about the socio-demographic characteristics of the students and their hand hygiene knowledge. Results: A total of 195 volunteers, whose mean age was 20.21±2.81 years and 150 (76.9%) of whom were female, participated in the study. Of the participants 98.5% stated that they heard about the concept of hand hygiene, 79% received hand hygiene training, and 73.8% stated that they received this training at school. It was determined that 96.9% preferred water and soap for hand hygiene. The proposition that the participants answered incorrectly at the highest rate was the question "Hand hygiene should be provided before putting on gloves". This question was seen to be answered incorrectly by 39.5% of the participants. "Wearing gloves replaces hand hygiene" was the second most frequently incorrectly answered proposition. Among the reasons why the participants did not /could not provide hand hygiene, the most common reason was found to be insufficient number of sinks and the fact that antiseptic soaps/hand disinfectants cause irritation. Conclusion: Nursing students can be given training on effective hand hygiene before they start the profession
dc.description.abstractAmaç: Bu çalışma hemşirelik öğrencilerinin, sağlık hizmeti ilişkili infeksiyonların (SHİİ) artan oranlarının ışığında, el hijyeninin uygulamaları konusundaki bilgi düzeyinin değerlendirilmesi ve el hijyeni ile ilgili yapılması planlanan eğitim programına temel oluşturması amaçlanmıştır. Yöntem: Araştırma, bir Sağlık Yüksekokulu Hemşirelik Bölümü’nde yürütüldü. Verilerin elde edilmesinde toplam 45 sorudan oluşan anket formu kullanıldı. Anket formu iki bölümden oluştu: “Katılımcı Bilgi Formu” ve “El hijyeni Bilgi Değerlendirme Formu”. Anket formu, öğrencilerin sosyo-demografik özellikleri ve el hijyeni bilgisi ile ilgili durumlarını sorgulayan sorulardan oluştu. Bulgular: Çalışmaya, yaş ortalaması 20,21± 2,81 ve 150’si (%76,9) kadın cinsiyette, 195 gönüllü katıldı. Katılımcıların %98,5’i el hijyeni kavramını duyduklarını, %79’u el hijyeni eğitimi aldığını, %73,8’i okulda bu eğitimi aldığını ifade etti. %96,9’unun el hijyeni için su ve sabunu tercih ettiği tesbit edildi. Katılımcıların en yüksek oranda yanlış cevapladığı önerme ‘Eldiveni takmadan önce el hijyeni sağlanmalıdır’ sorusu idi. Bu soruya katılımcıların %39,5’inin yanlış cevap verdiği görüldü. ‘Eldiven giymek el hijyeni yerine geçer’ önermesi ise ikinci sırada en sık yanlış cevap verilen önerme oldu. Katılımcıların el hijyenini sağlamama/sağlayamama nedenleri arasında en sık nedenin lavabo sayısının yetersizliği ve antiseptik sabunların/el dezenfektanlarının tahriş etmesi olarak bulundu. Sonuç: Hemşirelik öğrencilerine, mesleğe başlamadan önce, etkili el hijyenine ilişkin eğitim verilebilir.
