Business ethics, social responsibility and corporate governance: Does the strategic management field really care about these concepts?
(Elsevier Science Bv, 2013) Taysir, Eyup Aygun; Pazarcik, Yener
In this study we aimed to understand the strategic management (SM) field's opinions about corporate governance, social responsibility and business ethics concepts. In order to realize our aim, we analyzed one of the most reputable journals in the field, the Strategic Management Journal (SMJ). Computer-aided content analysis of 908 articles published between 1998 and 2010 revealed that only 25 articles which focused on the relationship between corporate governance, social responsibility, business ethics and corporate performance/strategy concepts, appeared in SMJ. We also analyzed the methodology and major findings of these 25 articles and found that the SM field has been neglecting these concepts, though not totally ignoring them. The possible explanation of this negligence is also discussed.

Is It A Way Out of Crises for White Meat Producers to Focus On Export Strategies During Crisis Times?
(Elsevier Science Bv, 2011) Akar, Cuneyt; Pazarcik, Yener; Yildirim, Yavuz Tansoy
The primary aim of this paper is to analyze whether exportation can be used as a successful strategy to move the chicken meat sector out of a crisis. The data for this study includes the export and production quantity of chicken meat for the country of Turkey from 1981 to 2010. Data was gathered from the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO). The effect of the 1994, 2001 and 2005 crises on the production and export quantity of chicken meat is investigated by using the curve fitting approach. The results illustrate that chicken meat export quantity increased during the crisis time. At the same time, production quantity didn't decrease significantly. Thus, it can be concluded that exportation can be a strategy applied to eliminate the impact of a crisis. (C) 2011 Published by Elsevier Ltd. In this vein, lecturers, researchers, assistants, and graduate candidates of this specific program back in the 1956 were interviewed. These interviews are presented as an oral history research of that first specific example of less-economics oriented business administration education. Findings support that these business administration courses and the following outputs can be considered the earliest efforts in Turkey. Findings also reveal that these courses had direct and indirect effects on today's business environment and the business administration education in Turkey along with a number of targets that were not achieved. The study aims to shed light on the fundamentals of today's institutionalized business administration graduate programs and to explain how these programs were evolved via first hand primary data.

What Motivates Nonprofit Organizations' Top Managers to Volunteer?
(2013) Tayşir, Eyüp Aygün; Pazarcik, Yener; Tayşir, Nurgül Keleş
In this empirical study we analyzed 119 executives from Turkish nonprofit organizations with the aim of providing evidence to answer the question of what motivates governance volunteers to volunteer. Moreover, we tested whether organizational mission, managerial position, and age cause a difference among governance volunteers' volunteer motivation. Factor analysis revealed that there were five factors underlying the volunteer motivation concept, and although a combination of altruistic and egoistic needs leads individuals to volunteer, the primary reason was altruistic. Contrary to our assumptions, we found out that there was no difference between the determinants of volunteer motivation of governance volunteers from different managerial positions or from organizations with different missions. However, we found that determinants of volunteer motivation differ depending on age. © 2013 Copyright Taylor and Francis Group, LLC.
