Öğe A Mobile Application to Teach Coding and Computational Thinking in Scratch Programming Language(Springer International Publishing Ag, 2019) Salahli, M. A.; Gasimzadeh, T.; Alasgarova, F.; Guliyev, A.In this work, a mobile application developed on the Scratch programming language is described. Purpose of the application is to develop programming skills and computational thinking abilities of the students from secondary schools. The mobile application has been developed to solve two problems related to teaching Scratch programming language. The first problem related to educational aspects of the Scratch programming commonly used in secondary schools. The second problem is that Scratch does not have mobile applications for its learning. The most important component of the mobile application - the activities are described in detail. The activities are designed to teach the Scratch programming language on the one hand and to develop the algorithmic, computational, and logical thinking skills of the students on the other. How to improve students' computational thinking skills by using activities is explained in an example.Öğe Analysis of Relationship Between Learning Outcomes and Student’s Exam Results Using Association Rule Mining and Fuzzy Inference Rules(Springer Science and Business Media Deutschland GmbH, 2021) Salahlı, M.A.; Gasimzadeh, T.; Alasgarova, F.The academic success of students largely depends on the correct selection and evaluation of learning outcomes. The most effective tool for measuring student knowledge is exams. In this context, the scores of the students in the exams are the important indicators of their learning achievements. In this study the relationship between learning outcomes and exam results of students is analyzed. The research was carried out based on mathematics exam scores of students studying in the 6th grade of secondary school and the data related to the learning outcomes of this course. To reveal this relationship, an approach based on fuzzy logic and data mining methods is considered. The weights of the learning outcomes in the questions were analyzed, then the relationships between the outcomes and scores were determined using the Apriori algorithm. Then fuzzy inference rules were created based on the most frequent items determined as the results of the Apriori algorithm.Öğe Enhancing Students' Collaboration and Creative Thinking Skills by Using Online Encyclopedias(Springer International Publishing Ag, 2020) Salahli, M. A.; Gasimzadeh, T.; Alasgarova, F.; Guliyev, A.Cooperative learning and creative thinking skills play an important role in the skills that 21st century students should have. This study explores how these skills can be improved by using the opportunities provided by online encyclopedias. The proposed method aims develop cooperative learning skills in the process of writing research homework; developing creative thinking by conducting research on a given topic and writing a composition; integration of technology with education and training process. Tests conducted on student groups showed that students who participated in the writing of wiki articles improved their cooperative and creative thinking skills.Öğe Fuzzy Logic Analysis of Parameters Affecting Students’ Satisfaction with Their Life at University(Springer Science and Business Media Deutschland GmbH, 2023) Salahlı, Mehmet Ali; Gasimzade T.; Salahlı, V.; Alasgarova, F.; Guliyev, A.There has been a rapid increase in the number of universities in recent years. This situation causes an increase in the competition among universities in terms of attracting students. Since the factors that express the satisfaction of the students with the university they are studying have a very serious effect on the university preference, studies on the analysis of these factors are of great importance. In this study, the factors affecting students’ satisfaction with their university life were investigated. These factors are divided into 3 groups as department-related, university-related and city-related factors. In the study, using fuzzy logic methods, the effect of various satisfaction factors on the general satisfaction value of the students was determined. The weight of the factors in the formation of satisfaction levels is expressed with fuzzy values. Fuzzy inference method was applied to determine the relationships between the factors.Öğe One mobile application for the development of programming skills of secondary school students(Elsevier Science Bv, 2017) Salahli, M. A.; Yildirim, E.; Gasimzadeh, T.; Alasgarova, F.; Guliyev, A.The aim of this study is to develop a mobile application for the Scratch programming language in order to develop programming skills of the students from secondary schools. The mobile application has been developed to solve two problems related to teaching Scratch programming language. The first problem related to educational aspects of the Scratch programming commonly used in secondary schools. The second problem is that Scratch does not have mobile applications for its learning. The structure of the application is described. The results of using the application in the learning process have been analyzed. Analyse shows that there is a significant difference between the problem solving skills of the students who have used this application in the learning process and the skills of the students who have not used it. In this process, social-economic, educational, and personal factors have a great impact on the academic achievements of first-year students. In this study, the aim is to determine the factors affecting the academic success of university freshmen and to predict the academic success of students by using decision tree and fuzzy logic methods together, considering the most important factors. Students’ achievement was predicted by the decision tree method considering the students’ university entrance scores, satisfaction with the educational environment, accommodation, attendance to the course, and preference of the department as input of the prediction model. Fuzzy inference rules were created based on the decision tree obtained from implementation of the J48 method, which provides a better understanding of the dependence between students’ academic achievement and impact factors. © 2022, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.
