    Covid-19 vaccine literacy status of individuals without completed covid-19 vaccine period and implementation of covid-19 vaccine in Turkey: descriptive study

    Background and Objectives: In the Covid 19 pandemic, determining the vaccine literacy of individuals whose vaccination process has not been completed and ensuring that they are vaccinated shows the importance of this study. This study was carried out between 1 January and 31 March 2022. This study was conducted to determine the vaccine literacy level of individuals whose Covid-19 vaccines were not completed during the Covid-19 pandemic process and to apply Covid-19 vaccines. Materials and Methods: This study is descriptive and cross-sectional study. The population of the study consisted of individuals over the age of 18 who did not complete their Covid-19 vaccines and lived in a town in the west of Turkey. After the power analysis was conducted, the sample consisted of 923 people who agreed to participate in the research. The information form and the Covid-19 Vaccine Literacy Scale were used as data collection tools. The Independent Sample t-test was used to compare the Covid-19 vaccine literacy and sub-dimension scores with personal information; one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) was used to compare educational status and income levels; the Tukey HSD test was used as post-hoc test; and the Pearson Correlation analysis was used to correlate the continuous variables with each other. Results: The mean score of the Covid-19 Vaccine Literacy Scale was found to be above average, and the mean score of the subdimensions communicative/critical and functional skills was found to be moderate. It was found that the participants' Covid 19 vaccine literacy was associated with marital status, education levels, income level, having the Covid-19 disease, and having previously been vaccinated against Covid-19. Conclusion: As a result of the research conducted between January 1, 2022 and March 31, 2022, 923 volunteer participants were vaccinated against Covid-19. The first dose of Covid-19 vaccine was administered to 82 people out of 923 who had never been vaccinated. A second dose of Covid-19 vaccine was administered to 178 people, a third dose of Covid-19 vaccine to 311 people, a fourth dose of Covid19 vaccine to 271 people, and a fifth dose of Covid-19 vaccine to 81 people. An important vaccination program was carried out, and this result is the most important success of our study. It was found that there was a relationship between the Covid-19 vaccine literacy levels and the Covid-19 vaccination, marital status, education level, income status and Covid-19 disease status of the individuals participating in the study. The Covid-19 vaccine literacy score of the participants was above the medium level, and the sub-dimension scores of the participants were moderate. In total, 923 volunteer participants were vaccinated against Covid19, and 82 people who had never been vaccinated were given the first dose of Covid-19 vaccine.

    Determination of the relationship between competencies in disaster nursing management and perceived stress: The intermediary role of resilience

    Background: Türkiye encounters various natural disasters, foremost earthquakes, and, nurses' resilience, ability to cope with stress and disaster competence play a significant role in disasters. Objective: The objective of this study is to establish the intermediary role of resilience in the relation between nurses' competencies in disaster management and perceived stress. Method: The sampling of this descriptive and cross-sectional study included 240 nurses from across Türkiye. The socio-demographic characteristics questionnaire, Competencies for Disaster Nursing Management Questionnaire, Brief Resilience Scale, Perceived Stress Scale were utilized in order to collect data. Among the continuous variables of the research, Pearson correlation analysis, linear regression and hierarchical regression analyses regarding the intermediary effect were performed by using PROCESS Model. Findings: The mean scale scores of nurses were detected to be CDNMQ 6.300 +/- 2.771 (medium), BRS 18.463 +/- 4.308 (medium), and PS 21.038 +/- 6.759 (low), respectively. The relationship between CDNMQ and PS (path c; ss = -0.534) descends in case BRS is added to the model (path c'; ss = -0.429) (p < 0.05). In light of this finding, BRS was determined to be a partial intervening variable between CDNMQ and PS. Conclusion: In accordance with this study, it is recommended to plan studies to enhance disaster nursing competence, prioritize resilience, and reproduce this study in various nurse groups.

    Experiences of nursing students affected by coved-19 during face to face education: qualitative research

    Objective: This study was conducted to determine the experiences of nursing students who received face-to-face education during the COVID-19 pandemic and contracted COVID-19. Method: A phenomenological qualitative study was used to understand the students' experiences, and the study was completed with 11 students who volunteered. Semi-structured online interviews were conducted using an interview guide, and the interviews were recorded. Thematic analysis was employed to generate themes. MAXQDA 2022 software was used for the analysis of the research. Results: As a result of the research, 3 themes; themes are as follows: COVID-19 disease process with the sub-themes emotions and gains; Educational process with the sub-themes technological problems, financial constraints, and legal issues; nursing profession and values with the sub-themes importance of nursing, intense and challenging working environment. Conclusion: According to the experiences of students who contracted Covid-19 disease during face-to-face education during the Covid-19 epidemic, it was concluded that nursing students should be provided with the necessary technological support, the legal regulations of universities should be revised, and psychosocial support should be provided to students.

    Hastanede Çalışan Hemşirelerin İş Güvenliği

    Amaç: Bu çalışma hastanede çalışan hemşirelerin iş güvenliği durumlarının belirlenmesi amacıylayapılmıştır. Yöntem: Kesitsel ve tanımlayıcı olarak yapılan bu çalışmanın örneklemini, devlet ve üniversitehastanesinde çalışan toplam 272 hemşire oluşturmuştur. Verilerin toplanmasında, hemşirelerin özelliklerinibelirleyen form ve hastanede çalışan sağlık personeli için iş güvenliği ölçeği kullanılmıştır. Veriler SPSS 21.0programında, sayı yüzde, ortalama kullanılarak değerlendirilmiştir. Bulgular: Araştırma bulgularına göre,hemşirelerin % 61.5’i iş güvenliğine ilişkin tebliğden haberi olmadıklarını belirtmişlerdir. Hemşirelerin %61.5’içalıştıkları kurumda iş güvenliği uzmanı olup olmadığını bilmediklerini, %52.3’ü kurumlarında çalışangüvenliğine ilişkin komite olduğunu belirtmiştir. Hastanelerde iş güvenliği ölçeği toplam ve alt boyutlar bazındapuan ortalamalarına bakıldığında ise; 2.16±0.98 ve 3.96±1.48 aralığında değişmiştir. Sonuç: Araştırmada,kurumlarda orta düzeyde bir iş güvenliğini sağlanabildiği bulunmuştur. Mesleki hastalıklar ve şikâyetler alt ölçeği,yönetsel destek ve yaklaşımlar alt ölçeği boyutunda ise, ortalamanın altında bulunmuştur.

    Hemşirelik Öğrencilerinin Eğitim Stresini Etkileyen Faktörlerin Belirlenmesi

    Amaç: Bu çalışmanın amacı hemşirelik lisans öğrencilerinin eğitimstresini etkileyen faktörlerin belirlenmesidir.Yöntem: Tanımlayıcı tipte yapılan bu çalışma iki farklı üniversitedehemşirelik lisans programına devam eden 585 öğrenci ile yapılmıştır.Verilerin toplanmasında “Sosyo-Demografik Özellikler Bilgi Formu”ve “Hemşirelik Eğitimi Stres Ölçeği” kullanılmıştır. Veriler SPSS 20.0istatistik programında analiz edilmiştir. Verilerin değerlendirilmesindesayı, yüzde, ortalama, standart sapma, t-testi, tek yönlü varyans analizive korelasyon analizi kullanılmıştır.Bulgular: Öğrencilerin uygulama stres puanı ortalaması 30.45±8.48,akademik stres puanı 30.79±8.09, toplam stres puanı 61.25±15.74olarak saptanmıştır. Uygulama stres puanı kız öğrencilerde, okulunfiziki koşullarından memnun olmayanlarda, hemşirelik bölümünütercih etmekte kararsız olanlarda anlamlı düzeyde daha yüksektir(p<0.05). Akademik stres puanı kız öğrencilerde, batıda yer alan okulunöğrencilerinde, okulun fiziki koşullarından memnun olmayanlardave hemşirelik müfredatından hiç memnun olmayanlarda anlamlı düzeydedaha yüksek olduğu bulunmuştur (p<0.05).Sonuç: Çalışmanın yapıldığı her iki okulda fiziksel koşulların düzenlenmesi,hemşirelik bölümlerinin daha etkin tanıtılması ve müfredatlarınıntekrar gözden geçirilmesi önerilmektedir.

    Nursing student's experiences of Role-Play Scenario-Based Disaster Triage (START) training: A qualitative research

    Background Disasters can overwhelm healthcare systems, making effective triage a crucial skill for nurses. Role-Play Scenario-Based Disaster Triage Training offers a promising approach to prepare nursing students for these situations. Understanding students' experiences with this training method can inform its development and effectiveness in fostering disaster preparedness. However, little is known about this training experience of nursing students. In particular, by examining the challenges faced by students, the emotional distress they experience and their achievements, it will provide guidance for the development of education programs in a more comprehensive and student-oriented manner. Aim The aim of this study is to elucidate the experiences of nursing students regarding Role-Play Scenario-Based Disaster Triage Training. Design and methods A qualitative approach was employed to comprehend participating students' experiences. Face-to-face and online semi-structured interviews were conducted with 17 students using an interview guide, and the interactions were recorded for subsequent analysis. Thematic analysis was employed to develop themes. Results The study results emphasize the challenges experienced by students during triage training, their gains and the support they need to cope with the challenges they experience. Data were organized around four main themes: “Challenges of the triage process” with subthemes such as “Thinking of the actual earthquake moment” and “Ethical dilemmas”; “Emotional turmoil” with subthemes including “Anxiety” and “Fear and Helplessness”; “Achievements” with subthemes such as “Increase in knowledge and skills” and “The importance of the nurse”; and “Suggestions” with subthemes including “Continuous education” and “Mandatory course”. Conclusions The findings of the study provide new insights into the experiences of nursing students during the disaster triage process. The results may contribute to the improvement of future training programs by identifying the challenges and needs faced by nursing students after disaster triage education.

    Qualitative Investigation of Nurses' Working Conditions After a Major Earthquake in Türkiye

    AimsWe aimed to determine the working conditions and share the experiences of local earthquake-affected nurses and volunteer nurses from other regions in the first days after the Kahramanmara & scedil; earthquakes that took place in T & uuml;rkiye on February 6, 2023.DesignA phenomenological approach was adopted in this inductive qualitative study.MethodsIn-depth individual interviews were held between April and May 2023 with a total of 16 nurses who worked in the earthquake-affected areas or were voluntarily assigned from other provinces. Thematic analysis was used to evaluate the data, and the study adhered to the COREQ checklist.ResultsSeven themes were generated from the data: earthquake scenes, organisation, nurses' actions, preparedness, volunteering, basic necessities, and the emotional spectrum. The organisation theme had three subthemes: uncertainty, communication and coordination, and excessive workload.ConclusionThe results of this study can be a guide in preventing and rapidly addressing the problems encountered in post-disaster nursing care. To cope with the sudden increase in workload, atypical cases, and ethical dilemmas after a disaster, we recommend updating the current nursing curriculum, modifying existing hospital disaster plans, and conducting further studies to increase the physical and psychological resilience of nurses responding to disasters and emergencies.Implications for the ProfessionThe findings of this study may provide a basis for nurses to advocate for change and better disaster preparedness. Nurses can be better prepared by knowing the conditions in an earthquake zone. It may also encourage the development of post-earthquake recovery programs for the psychosocial health of nurses.ImpactThe results of this study can be used to restructure earthquake preparedness programs, starting in undergraduate education, to prepare nurses for major earthquakes. In addition, it may guide policy-makers and health care professionals, especially nurses, in optimally preparing for earthquakes and planning and implementing nationwide technology-supported earthquake preparedness programs.Patient or Public ContributionNo patient or public contribution.

    Relationship Between Nurse Managers’ Leadership Style and Nurses’ Organizational Commitment

    Aim: This study was conducted in a descriptive and relationship-seeking style to determine the relationship between the leadership of nurse management and the organizational commitment of staff nurses. Method: Data were collected after contacting the participants via e-mail between April 2019 and August 2019. The population of the study was 2619 nurses, the sample size calculation was 325, but considering that there may be erroneous and missing data, the study was completed with 405 nurses. Data were collected online using the Multifactor Leadership Questionnaire MLQ 5X Short Scale and the Organizational Commitment Scale. Results: As a result of the research; it was determined that the emotional and normative commitment of the nurses was at a medium level but the continued commitment was low. Transformational leadership and individual support positively affect organizational commitment. As a result of the regression analysis conducted to determine the effect of leadership on organizational commitment, it was determined that transformational leadership positively affected organizational commitment and that some of the change in organizational commitment was due to transformational leadership and individual support. It was determined that the leadership style of the manager nurses affected the commitment of the nurses to the hospital by 15%. Conclusion: According to study the results, the leadership behaviour score of the manager nurses was found to be above the middle. Transformational leadership behaviour was found to be higher than transactional leadership. Nurses' emotional and normative commitment was found to be moderate, but continued commitment was low. © 2024 The Authors.

    The effect of talent management on the job satisfaction and organizational commitment of nurses

    Aim To determine the effect of talent management on job satisfaction and organizational commitment of nurses and the mediating role of job satisfaction. Background Talent management plays a critical role in attracting, developing, and retaining nurses and is effective in the formation of job satisfaction and organizational commitment. Methods This correlational study sample consisted of 482 volunteering nurses who were selected through a convenience sampling method. Data were collected using an information form, the Talent Management Scale, the Minnesota Satisfaction Questionnaire, and the Organizational Commitment Scale. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, Pearson correlation analysis, single linear regression, and hierarchical regression analysis. The Baron and Kenny model was used to determine the mediation effect. Findings Talent management affected the intrinsic, extrinsic subdimensions of job satisfaction and the total score and the affective commitment, normative commitment, and continuance commitment significantly and positively. Job satisfaction had a full mediating role in the effect of talent management on affective commitment and continuance commitment and a partial mediating role in affecting normative commitment. Conclusion Talent management in organizations can increase nurses' job satisfaction and organizational commitment and nurses' job satisfaction can play a mediating role in the effect of talent management on organizational commitment. Implications for nursing and health policy This study demonstrates that nurse managers and decision-makers should adopt talent management practices in nursing. Desired results such as nurses' job satisfaction and organizational commitment can be achieved by focusing on the development of nurses' talents.
