Nurses' perception of talent management scale (NPTMS): development, validation and psychometric properties
(Bmc, 2025) Gül, Duygu; Sönmez, Betül
Background There is an increasing need for a new and comprehensive approach to evaluate nursing talent to increase effectiveness and productivity. Talent management, which plays an important role in identifying, developing and retaining nursing talent, is a key strategy for investing in nursing. This study aimed to develop the Nurses' Perception of Talent Management Scale (NPTMS) and assess its psychometric properties. Methods The scale was developed using a methodological design with a convenience sampling method including 918 nurses (n(EFA)=422, n(CFA)=496) from 12 hospitals in Istanbul between September and April 2022. The scale was developed in three phases. Firstly, items reflecting talent management in nursing were created through a comprehensive literature review employing the deductive method. Then, the face and content validity of the scale were evaluated. Finally, construct validity (exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis, concurrent validity, convergent and divergent validity) and reliability (item-total score correlation, split-half method, Cronbach's alpha coefficient, equivalent forms reliability and test-retest) were evaluated for psychometric properties. Results The newly developed scale, for which validity and reliability analyses were conducted using two separate samples through exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis, was found to consist of 26 items and a single factor. This factor explained 63.2% of the variance related to the structure and showed acceptable goodness of fit (chi 2/sd = 4.325, RMSEA = 0.078, RMR = 0.046, TLI = 0.915, CFI = 0.924, NFI = 0.903, GFI = 0.882, IFI = 0.924). The content validity of the scale was found to be 0.95. Construct validity results indicated that the scale exhibited strong concurrent validity (r(EFA) =0.755, r(CFA) =0.772, p < 0.05) and convergent and divergent validity (AVE > 0.5; CR > 0.8; CR > AVE). The reliability analyses revealed high internal consistency (0.976(EFA);0.978(CFA)), time invariance (ICC = 0.836), and equivalent forms reliability (p < 0.05). Conclusions The scale is a valid and reliable tool for assessing nurses' perceptions of talent management. It can be used to evaluate talent management practices in nursing and developing policies and strategies that support investment in nursing talent. Clinical trial number Not applicable.

Do women's fatalistic tendencies affect their attitudes toward the early diagnosis of cervical cancer?
(Mre Press, 2025) Yalçın Gürsoy, Melike; Tepebaşı, Beray
Background: Cervical cancer is one of the most common types of cancer in women, and early diagnosis can significantly reduce mortality rates. However, cervical cancer screening rates have not reached the desired levels. The purpose of this study is to determine the relationship between women's fatalistic tendencies and their attitudes toward the early diagnosis of cervical cancer. Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted from October 2023 to March 2024 and included 385 women. Data were collected through an online survey, which featured a personal information form, the Attitudes Toward the Early Diagnosis of Cervical Cancer Scale (AEDCCS), and the Fatalistic Tendency Scale (FTS). Results: The mean scores for the AEDCCS and the FTS total scales were 101.2 +/- 10.4 and 73.5 +/- 9.3, respectively. Linear regression analysis revealed a statistically significant relationship between the AEDCCS total score and the superstition subscale of the FTS (t = -2.370; beta = -0.540) (p <0.05). Conclusions: The results indicate that women's superstitious beliefs are predictors of their attitudes toward early detection of cervical cancer. It is recommended that health professionals consider women's fatalistic tendencies and superstitious beliefs when designing educational and informational programs to encourage participation in cervical cancer screening.

(Elsevier Inc., 2021) Küçükoğlu, Sibel; Kurt, Fatma Yılmaz; Özdemir, Aynur Aytekin; Özcan, Zekiye
Purpose: This study investigated the effect of kangaroo care (KC) on breastfeeding rate and development in preterm neonates in the first six months of life. Design: The study was conducted using a quasi-experimental method with a pretest-posttest control group design. The sample consisted of preterm neonates in the NICU of two state hospitals of Turkey. The experimental group (n =30) was provided with KC by their mothers for 30 min once a day during a postnatal month. The control group (n = 30) received routine care. Feeding patterns and physical development parameters were determined during the transition to exclusive breastfeeding and at discharge, and in the first, third, and sixth postnatal months. Data were collected using a descriptive characteristics questionnaire, a nutrition and physical development follow-up form, and a home KC follow-up form. Percentage distribution, mean, chi-square test, and t-test were used for analysis. Results: The KC group had a significantly higher mean body weight than the control group in the third and sixth postnatal months (p < .05). The KC group had higher breast milk intake and breastfeeding rates than the control group during the transition to exclusive breastfeeding and at discharge, and in the first, third, and sixth postnatal months (p < .05). Conclusion: The KC neonates were breastfed for a more extended period of time than controls. This result suggests that KC improves breast milk intake and breastfeeding rates. Therefore, mothers should be trained in KC in the postnatal period. Practice implications: Healthcare professionals should encourage and follow mothers for kangaroo care.

The relationship between basic psychological needs satisfaction, career adaptability and career construction in nursing students: A career construction theory perspective
(Elsevier Sci Ltd, 2024) Sönmez, Betül; Gül, Duygu; Gümüş, Ceyda
Aim: To determine (i) the relationship between basic psychological needs satisfaction (competence, relatedness and autonomy), career adaptability and career construction, (ii) the role of career adaptability in this relationship and (iii) the variables that predict career construction in nursing students. Background: Career Construction Theory, which predicts that appropriate career behaviour, facilitated by individual characteristics, promotes a person's career outcomes, has not yet been tested in nursing students. Design: Cross-sectional and correlational design. Methods: A total of 536 students who were reached through a snowball sampling method among nursing students in the 2022-2023 academic year in T & uuml;rkiye constituted the sample of the study. Data were collected online using the Student Information Form, the Basic Psychological Needs Satisfaction Scale, Career Adapt-Abilities Scale-Short Form and the Student Career Construction Inventory. Data analysis was performed using Model 4 in Hayes' PROCESS Macro and hierarchical linear regression. Results: Autonomy, competence and relatedness were found to have a direct significant effect on career adaptability and overall career construction score ( p<. 001). Career adaptability was found to have a partial mediating role in the effect of autonomy, competence and relatedness on overall career construction score ( p<. 001). When examining the predictor variables for the career construction score, it was found that some variables, such as not having willingly chosen the nursing profession, had a negative effect, while a positive effect was found in the need for competence from the basic psychological needs satisfaction subscales and concern and confidence from the career adaptability subscales ( p<. 05). Conclusions: Nursing educators should ensure that nursing students receive career counseling during their education according to Career Construction Theory to make effective career decisions by allowing them to selfidentify and self-discover. Accordingly, career guidance, career education and career counseling initiatives can be implemented in accordance with students' needs.

Attitudes of healthcare professionals regarding vaccines and influencing factors: A cross-sectional study
(Elsevier Science Inc, 2024) Duran, Rüveyda; Çalbayram, Nazan
Aims This study aims to examine the attitudes of healthcare professionals toward vaccines and identify factors influencing these attitudes. Methods The study, which employed a descriptive and cross-sectional methodology, included doctors, nurses, and midwives employed at a public hospital between March 2022 and February 2023. Data were collected through face-to-face interviews using structured questionnaires, including the “Attitudes Towards Vaccination Scale.” Results Healthcare workers generally had positive attitudes toward vaccination, with nearly all receiving the COVID-19 vaccine. Participants with children reported high childhood vaccination rates, and factors such as gender and occupation significantly influenced vaccination attitudes (p < 0.001). While 87.1 % of the participants expressed concerns about the potential adverse effects of vaccines, those who believed vaccines had no side effects exhibited more favorable attitudes toward vaccination. Furthermore, the study revealed a considerable degree of endorsement for mandatory childhood vaccinations, with 75.1 % of participants expressing support for implementing legal obligations. Conclusion The findings of this study show healthcare workers' generally positive attitudes and confidence toward vaccines. However, more research should be conducted on the reasons for hesitancy toward COVID-19 vaccination. Increasing education and information activities is essential to overcome hesitations against new vaccines. Since the attitudes of healthcare workers toward vaccines can affect society's general vaccine acceptance and vaccination rates, studies in this field are of great importance. Implications to practice The study underscores the crucial role of healthcare professionals as advocates for vaccination, emphasizing the need for tailored communication strategies to effectively address vaccine hesitancy, particularly regarding safety concerns.
