Öğe Biochemical composition and in vitro antimicrobial activity of endemic helichrysum arenarium ssp. aucheriethanol extract(Parlar Scientific Publications, 2021) Bozyel, Mustafa Eray; Canlı, Kerem; Benek, Atakan; Yetgin, Ali; Altuner, Ergin MuratThe phenomenon of using plants for therapeutic purposes dates back to the earlier times in the history of humanity. Even though there have been remarkable developments in the modern medicine, pharmaceutical, and chemical industries, the therapeutic use of medicinal plants is still up to date. Due to the emergence of antibiotic-resistant strains and the proliferation of side effects in synthetic drugs, the importance of research on the antimicrobial potential and biochemical composition of plant extracts has increased. The main purpose of this present study is to screen both the antibacterial and antifungal activity of endemic Helichrysum arenarium ssp. aucheri ethanol extract by disk diffusion on some Gram-negative and Gram-positive bacteria and Candida albicans, and to identify the major compounds found in the ethanol extract by GC/MS. According to the results obtained from the study, it can be proposed that the extract showed antibacterial and anti-fungal activity for all microorganisms excluding Salmonella typhimurium SL1344, Salmonella infantis, E. coli (food isolate), Escherichia coli ATCC 25922 and Enterobacter aerogenes ATCC 13048, and some chemical compounds were detected, which may be responsible for the antimicrobial activity.Öğe CHEMICAL COMPOSITION AND IN VITRO ANTIMICROBIAL ACTIVITY OF MATTHIOLA TRICUSPIDATA ETHANOL EXTRACT(Parlar Scientific Publications (P S P), 2020) Canli, Kerem; Bozyel, Mustafa Eray; Benek, Atakan; Yetgin, Ali; Senturan, Merve; Altuner, Ergin MuratIt is widely accepted by scientists that innovation of new antimicrobial agents has extreme importance for the sake of the future of human beings; therefore the researches about the antimicrobial potentials of plant extracts and their biochemical composition have great importance. This present study aims to investigate the antimicrobial activity of Matthiola tricuspidata ethanol extract against several Gram-positive and Gram-negative microorganisms and Candida albicans by disk diffusion method, and to identify its chemical composition by Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry. As a result, it was observed that the extract showed activity for all microorganisms excluding Enterobacter aerogenes ATCC 13048, Escherichia coli ATCC 25922, E. coli, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Salmonella infantis, and Salmonella typhimurium SL1344 and some chemical compounds were detected, which may be responsible for the antimicrobial activity.Öğe In Vitro Antimicrobial Activity Screening of Ethanol Extract of Lavandula stoechas and Investigation of Its Biochemical Composition(Hindawi Ltd, 2019) Canli, Kerem; Yetgin, Ali; Benek, Atakan; Bozyel, Mustafa Eray; Altuner, Ergin MuratThe aim of this study was to test antimicrobial activity of ethanol extract of Lavandula stoechas against 22 bacteria and 1 yeast. Also, biochemical composition of the extract was investigated. A wide range of Gram-positive, Gram-negative microorganisms, and multidrug resistant bacteria were selected to test the antimicrobial activity. As a result, the extract is observed to contain fenchone (bicyclo[2.2.1]heptan-2-one, 1,3,3-trimethyl-, (1R)-) and camphor (+)-2-bornanone) as major components and showed antimicrobial activity against all studied microorganisms except Escherichia coli ATCC 25922 and Klebsiella pneumoniae. The results of the study present that L. stoechas is active against MDR strains too.Öğe Screening of in vitro antimicrobial activity of sedum hispanicum ethanol extract and determination of its biochemical composition(Parlar Scientific Publications, 2021) Canli, Kerem; Bozyel, Mustafa Eray; Benek, Atakan; Yetgin, Ali; Akatas, Ilgaz; Altuner, Ergin MuratAlthough medical sciences are progressing tremendously, the diseases caused by viruses, fungi, and bacteria are still an important issue for public health. For this reason, continuous research to determine new antimicrobial compounds is needed. This study investigated the in vitro antimicrobial activity and biochemical composition of Sedum hispanicum ethanol extract for the first time in the literature. The in vitro antimicrobial activity of ethanol extract obtained from Sedum hispanicum by disk diffusion method against seventeen bacteria strains and one fungi strain, and biochemical composition of the ethanol extract was determined by GC-MS. The extract showed antimicrobial activity against all bacteria strains at almost all doses (50, 100, and 200 mu L) at different rates, except Pseudomonas fluorescence and Candida albicans. Some compounds found in the extract are not matching with the libraries. As a reason for that, this medicinal plant is proposed to contain some unknown molecules, which should be identified. Our results indicate that research of compounds, particularly unknown ones in the ethanol extract and their antimicrobial activities should be examined further.
