Adem; Dilgin, YusufPretreated fish bones obtained from engraulis European anchovy (Engraulis encrasicolus), European anchovy (Sardine pilchardus), bogue (Boops boops), bluefish (Pomatomus saltatrix) and gilthead seabream (Sparus aurata) were used as natural, cost-effective, waste sorbents for the adsorption and removal of copper from aqueous systems. The removal efficiency of the adsorbent was investigated as a function of pH, contact time, initial metal concentration, temperature, cleaning process, fish species and adsorbent dose. The maximum adsorption capacity was 150.7 mg/g at optimum conditions. The kinetic results of adsorption obeyed a pseudo-second-order model. Copper adsorption fitted the Langmuir isotherm. Delta H-0 value was 12.9 kJ/mol indicating that the adsorption mechanism was endothermic. The activation energy, E-a, was determined as 52.9 kJ/mol. Weber-Morris and Urano-Tachikawa diffusion models were also applied to experimental equilibrium data. The fish bones were effectively used as a sorbent for the removal of Cu ions from aqueous solution. (C) 2010 Elsevier B.V. AdemIn the present study, removal of cobalt and nickel (II) ions from aqueous solutions was studied by using pretreated fish bones. The effect of pH, contact time, temperature and metal concentration on the removal capacities of the adsorbent was investigated. The maximum removal capacities for Co and Ni (II) were found to be 83.70 and 58.82 mg/g at optimum conditions (p < 0.05), respectively. The experiments showed that when pH increased, an increase in the removal capacity of the pretreated fish bones was observed. The kinetic results of removal obeyed a pseudo second-order model. Freundlich and Langmuir isotherm models were applied and it can be suggested that the experimental data for the adsorption of Co and Ni (II) on the bone sorbents fit the Langmuir isotherm model. The values of R-L for Co and Ni (II) were found to be 0.50 and 0.25, respectively. The thermodynamic parameters related to the adsorption process such as E-a, Delta G(0), Delta H-0 and Delta S-0 were calculated. Delta H-0 values (positive) of cobalt and nickel showed that the adsorption mechanism was endothermic. Weber-Morris and Urano-Tachikawa diffusion models were also applied to the experimental equilibrium data. Based on the results, it can be concluded that fish bones can be used as adsorbent to remove Co and Ni (II) from aqueous solutions with simple processing.Öğe Determination of some nutritional compositions of roe samples of the edible sea urchin Paracentrotus Lividus (Lamarck, 1816) in the Dardanelles (Marmara Sea)(Natl Inst Science Communication-Niscair, 2015) Kizilkaya, Bayram; Ozalp, H. Baris; Turker, Gulen; Alparslan, Mustafa; Tekinay, A. AdemIn this study, the nutritional composition of gonad samples of Paracentrotus lividus collected from three different stations in the Sea of Marmara (Dardanelles) and the Northern Aegean Sea, Bozcaada Island during the summer season of 2012 was investigated. As a purpose of the research, the effect of total carotenoids and free radical-scavenging activity assay of three different extracts (methanol, acetone and chloroform extracts) have been determined. Total carotenoids were found to range between 131 and 179 mu g/g of sea urchin. The current study shows that the highest inhibition was found as 99.1 (%) in methanolic extract sampled from Tuzburnu (the first station). Macro (Ca, Na, K and Mg) and micro (Cu, Fe, Mn and Zn) mineral composition of urchins was specified by ICP-OES. Results show that sea urchin was found to be rich in total carotenoids, antioxidant capacity, macro and micro minerals.Öğe Effects of Ulva rigida on the growth, feed intake and body composition of common carp, Cyprinus carpio L(Asian Network for Scientific Information, 2007) Diler, Ibrahim; Tekinay, A. Adem; Güroy, Derya; Güroy, Betül Kut; Soyutürk, MuratThis study is the first trial to evaluate algae meal, Ulva rigida, as an inexpensive and locally available feed ingredient in the diet of common carp, Cyprinus carpio. Five experimental diets were supplemented with Ulva meal at 0, 5, 10, 15 and 20% (C0, U5, U10, U15 and U20, respectively) to investigate the effect of replacement of wheat meal by Ulva meal for common carp, Cyprinus carpio during a 112-day growth trial. Carp fingerlings, each initially weighing 3.1 g, were stocked into 601-glass tanks and were fed to apparent satiation three times daily. Performances of fish fed the test diets were evaluated in terms of survival, final mean weight, percent weight gain, specific growth rate, feed conversion ratio, protein efficiency ratio and body composition. Poorest growth performance was recorded from fish fed the diet with 20% Ulva meal supplementation (U20) (p<0.05). Fish group fed with 5% Ulva meal inclusion (U5) achieved the best growth performance (p>0.05). Results suggested that the dietary Ulva meal inclusion of 5 to 15% replacing wheat meal in carp diets could be acceptable. © 2007 Asian Network for Scientific Information.Öğe Haematococcus pluvialis (Chlorophyceae)'ten büyük ölçekli kültürlerde astaksantin pigmenti üretimi(2008) Göksan, Tolga; Gökpınar, Şevket; Işık, Oya; Tekinay, A. Adem; Türkoğlu, Muhammet; Ak, İlknur; İnanmaz, Emek Özgür[Abstract Not Available]Öğe Optimum Dietary Protein Level for Blue Streak Hap, Labidochromis caeruleus(Central Fisheries Research Inst, 2010) Ergün, Sebahattin; Guroy, Derya; Tekesoglu, Haluk; Guroy, Betul; Celik, Ihsan; Tekinay, A. Adem; Bulut, MusaAn experiment was designed to determine the optimum dietary protein level of a freshwater ornamental fish, Blue streak hap (Labidochromis caeruleus). Four isocaloric fish meal based diets ranging from 30% to 45% in protein were fed to triplicate groups of Blue streak hap for 8 weeks. Fish (initial weight, 0.85 g) were reared in twelve 50 L aquarium with biological filter and controlled temperature (27.5 degrees C), in stocking density of ten fish/aquarium. Results showed that dietary protein level significantly influenced final weight, weight gain and specific growth rate of fish. Maximum growth of fish was observed in the 40% protein diet, although this was not significantly different from the 35% and 45% protein diets (P > 0.05). Specific growth rate and feed efficiency increased from 30% to 40% protein, and thereafter decreased for diet 45% protein. There were statistically significantly differences in feed intake among treatments (P < 0.05). Fish fed with the highest protein diet had lower percentage daily feed consumption values than those of fish fed with the lowest protein diet. Under the experimental conditions applied, juvenile blue streak hap, L. Caeruleus, appear to require more than 35% dietary protein for optimized growth.Öğe Some biological parameters of horse mackerel Trachurus trachurus (L., 1758) caught from the Dardanelles(Ege Univ, 2006) Guroy, Derya; Kahyaoglu, Gulcin; Ozen, Ozcan; Tekinay, A. The Von Bertalanffy equation was estimated as Lt = 30.34 (1 - e (-0.255) ((t + 2.481))) for both sexes combined. Maximum monthly mean of the GSI for males (3.77%) and females (3.91%) were observed in April 2003.Öğe The seasonal variation of proximate composition and amino acid contents of a green algae Ulva rigida (C. Agardh)(Ege Univ, Fac Fisheries, 2008) Kaykac, Gozde Ova; Cirik, Sukran; Tekinay, A. AdemExperiment material was collected seasonaly along the coast of Izmir (Karsiyaka) in Aegean Sea. All analyses were carried on triplicate. According to the results, significant differences were observed in nutrient content and amino acid composition among seasons. Protein and most amino acid values were noticeably increased in winter (p<0,05). The lowest protein level was determined in spring (% 7,64 +/- 0,22), whereas the highest was in winter (% 24,67 +/- 0,37). The crude fat content also showed differences among seasons, the highest values was found in autumn (% 1,20 +/- 0,32). 18 of common amino acids including most essansial amino acids have been determined in protein hydrolysate of Ulva rigida. Triptophan was not detected because of acid hydrolysate. Significant variations were observed in amino acid composition among seasons. Comparing with other amino acids, aspartic acid and glutamic acid which are the responsible of seaweed taste were found major components in Ulva rigida in all seasons. These amino acids differed significantly among seasons.Öğe Utilization of biogenic apatite (fish bones) to remove cationic dye (methylene blue) from aqueous environment(Natl Inst Science Communication-Niscair, 2015) Kizilkaya, Bayram; Tekinay, A. AdemIn present study, removal of methylene blue (MB) was investigated to the best removal efficiency using fish bones, which are biogenic apatite, natural origin and waste product. Removal efficiency of the adsorbent was investigated as a function of contact time and initial dye concentration. Highest removal capacity was found to be 13.56 mgg(-1). Langmuir and Freundlich models were also applied to experimental data to find the best adsorption isotherm. Experimental data showed that adsorption of methylene blue on the fish bones fitted well to Langmuir isotherm model, and also the value of R-L was found to be 0.765. R-L value of bone adsorbent between 0 and 1 (0 < R-L < 1) indicate favorable removal and adsorption of the dye. Results were showed that fish bones can be effectively used as an adsorbent for the removal of cationic dyes from aqueous environments.Öğe Utilization to Remove Pb (II) Ions from Aqueous Environments Using Waste Fish Bones by Ion Exchange(Hindawi Ltd, 2014) Kizilkaya, Bayram; Tekinay, A. AdemRemoval of lead (II) from aqueous solutions was studied by using pretreated fish bones as natural, cost-effective, waste sorbents. The effect of pH, contact time, temperature, and metal concentration on the adsorption capacities of the adsorbent was investigated. The maximum adsorption capacity for Pb (II) was found to be 323mg/ g at optimum conditions. Freundlich and Langmuir isotherm models were applied to experimental equilibrium data of Pb (II) adsorption and the value of R-1, for Pb (II) was found to be 0.906. The thermodynamic parameters related to the adsorption process such as E-a,E- Delta G(o) and Delta S-o were calculated and E-a,E- Delta G(o) and Delta S-o were found to be 7.06, 46.01 kJmol -1, and 0.141 kJ mol -1 K -1 for Pb (III), respectively values (46.01 kJmol -1) showed that the adsorption mechanism was endothermic. Weber-Morris and Urano-Tachikawa diffusion models were also applied to the experimental equilibrium data. The fish bones were effectively used as sorbent for the removal of Pb (II) ions from aqueous solutions.Öğe Yeşil Deniz alglerinden Ulva rigida (C. Agardh)' nın besin kompozisyonu ve aminoasit içeriklerinin mevsimsel değişimi(2008) Kaykaç, Gözde Ova; Cirik, Şükran; Tekinay, A. AdemBu çalışmada yeşil deniz alglerinden Ulva rigida’nın mevsimsel olarak besin kompozisyonu (protein, yağ, kül, nem) ve aminoasit içeriklerinin belirlenmesi amaçlanmıştır.
