Öğe EVALUATION OF SOCIODEMOGRAPHIC CHARACTERISTICS AND EMERGENCY SITUATIONS OF PATIENTS PRESENTING TO THE EMERGENCY SERVICE VIA 112 AMBULANCES: TRAKYA UNIVERSITY SAMPLE(Trakya University, 2024) Bozatlı, Satuk Buğra Han; Sayhan, Mustafa Burak; Akdur, Okhan; Salt, ÖmerAbstract Objective: This study aims to delineate the characteristics of admissions to the emergency department by investigating the sociodemographic features, admission reasons, and health statuses of non-traumatic patients transported to the adult emergency department of a university hospital via 112 ambulances. Method: Retrospective analysis was conducted on non-traumatic patients aged 18 and above, who were brought to the Trakya University Faculty of Medicine Adult Emergency Service via 112 ambulances between January 1, 2015, and January 1, 2016. Patient data were obtained from the records of 112 Command and Control Centers, and a total of 1686 cases meeting the study criteria were identified. Results: Our study included 1686 patients. 112 ambulance registration forms, which were completed comprehensively and legibly, were examined. It was found that 52.9% of cases were male, and 51.8% of admissions occurred between 08:00 and 18:00. The most common reasons for ambulance requests were chest pain (n: 95, 17.6%) and shortness of breath (n: 62, 11.5%). Ambulance teams most frequently transported patients to the emergency room suspecting cerebrovascular disease (CVD) (n: 76, 27.3%). During the advanced examination and treatment in the emergency department, consultations were primarily sought from neurology (n: 419, 24.9%) and cardiology (n: 383, 22.7%) departments. A proportional disparity was observed between preliminary diagnoses of cerebrovascular disease (CVD) and myocardial infarction (MI) made by ambulance teams and final diagnoses in the emergency department. Conclusion: The study revealed that applications to emergency departments offering continuous healthcare services were predominantly from elderly patients, with a high number of admissions during working hours and a significant proportion of non-emergency cases. Given the aging population trend, optimizing healthcare service planning to better cater to the needs of the elderly is deemed imperative
