Conceptual and Psychometric Properties of a Self-efficacy Perception Scale Based on Teaching Turkish as a Foreign Language
(International Association of Educators, 2013) Sahin, Cavus; Eryaman, Mustafa Yunus; Kocer, Tugba; Kocer, Omer
The main purpose of this descriptive research study is to investigate the conceptual and psychometric properties of a self-efficacy perception scale developed for determining selfefficacy perception of 3rd and 4th grade Turkish pre-service teachers, who took Turkish as a Foreign Language (TFL) course theoretically in undergraduate level, towards teaching TFL. As a result of analysis of the related literature and written responses of participants, researchers initially formed an item-pool by considering that they best suit to TFL context. Then, they adapted the items into 5-point Likert scale. The current instrument was administered to 176 pre-service Turkish teachers with a random sampling design. The repetitive statistics showed that the instrument has three factors with 25 items that measure the self-efficacy of participants. The factors which have been identified in the instrument possess the construct validity and psychometric properties of internal consistency. The reliability and validity of the scale were analyzed with SPPS 17.0. According to exploratory factor analysis results for maintaining construct validity of the scale, factor values of the scale changed between 0.57 and 0.82, and total variant of the scale was found to be 70.379 %. As for the Kaiser-Meyer-Olkin (KMO) measuring of sampling adequacy and Bartlett‟s test of sphericity, KMO is found to be 0.95 being greater than 0.60 and Bartlett‟s test is large with Chi-square value (χ2(300)= 4143.5; p< ,0001) and significant at 0.000. As for reliability, the results showed that the items of scale in terms of item-total correlation changed between 0.45 and 0.84, and the total internal reliability coefficient of the scale (Cronbach‟s Alpha) was calculated as 0.972. Additionally, the two scholars gave their positive opinions in favor of the scale for face validity. The results indicates that the scale has the validity and reliability. Furthermore, the findings of the study confirmed that this scale had validity and reliability that could be used in TFL context for exploring pre-service teachers‟ self-efficacy perception towards teaching TFL

Determination of Tendencies of Secondary School Students to Tolerance and Variables Affecting their Tendencies to Tolerance
    (Kamla-Raj Enterprises, 2015) Sahin, Cavus
The purpose of this study is to investigate the tolerance tendency levels of secondary school students and determine variables affecting their tolerance tendency levels. Value, acceptance. and empathy levels were considered the sub-dimensions of tolerance. The study adopted a mixed research design. The relational survey model was used at the quantitative stage. A focus group interview was carried out in the quantitative method. In the relational survey model, the population of the study comprised students from secondary schools. Schools socioeconomic backgrounds (SEBG) were chosen as a criterion. Ultimately, 591 students participated in the study. A focus group interview was conducted at each school with low and high SEBGs. The interviews were administered to eight students from each school. A semi-structured interview form was used in the focus group interview and a tendency to tolerance scale was administered as a data collection tool. According to the survey results, the high level of tolerance obtained and its sub-dimensions signify that the present tolerance level is satisfactory. However, considering the concerns resulting from the focus group interviews, it is beneficial to take affecting variables (slender, family's monthly income, grade. SEBG) into account for the sustainability and amelioration of the present conditions of tolerance levels.

Media's Representation of Real World According to Candidate Teachers' Opinions
(Turkish Education Assoc, 2011) Sahin, Cavus; Tuzel, Sait
The aim of this research is to expose media world's representation level of real world according to candidate teachers' opinions. A survey method is used as a descriptive research. The development phase and validity and reliability studies were completed by the researchers. The scale named Scale of Media World's Representation Level of Real World is conducted with 376 candidate teachers and frequency, T-test, and one way Anova statistics were computed. According to the results, candidate teachers are undecided about media's representation level of the real world in general. There is a significant mean difference between the representation level of media and the most widely used media and most trusted media by candidate teachers. However, a significant mean difference could not be found between the representation level of media and the variables of department and gender. Suggestions are given according to the obtained results.

    Preservice Elementary Teachers' Assessment Beliefs
(Hacettepe Univ, 2013) Sahin, Cavus; Karaman, Pinar
The purpose of this study is to investigate preservice elementary teachers' assessment beliefs. To achieve that, a Likert-type scale developed by Genc (2005) was applied to 264 preservice elementary teachers. The scale including four subdimensions (formative, summative, traditional and alternative assessment) consists of a total of 34 items. The data were analyzed using both parametric (t-test) and non-parametric (Kruskal Wallis and Mann Whitney-U tests) statistical tests. Assessment beliefs of the preservice elementary teachers were investigated with respect to the following variables: gender, GPA (grade point average) and type of the secondary school graduated. As opposed to school type variable, the analysis of the data produced a statistically significant result on gender and GPA variables. The results revealed that preservice elementary teachers received the highest score on formative assessment subdimension and the lowest score on alternative assessment subdimension.
