Öğe Dairy farmers' risk attitudes and their perceptions towards environmental risks in Northwest Turkey(United Arab Emirates Univ, 2022) Ozsayin, DamlaThis study aims to determine the factors that affect dairy farmers' risk attitudes and their perceptions towards environmental risks in Northwest Turkey. By the proportional sampling method, data were collected from 381 dairy farmers. The survey was performed from September 2020 to June 2021. The study data were evaluated by descriptive statistics, risk matrix method, equally likely certainty equivalent method and probit model. In this study, severe storm, excessive rainfall/flood, livestock diseases, high temperature and drought was posed an important risk for dairy farmers. The majority of them showed risk aversion behaviour. Age, education level, household size, dairy farming experience, the number of dairy cattle, the land ownership status, livestock insurance and access of agricultural credits had a significant effect on risk perceptions and attitudes of dairy farmers. As a result, these findings are expected to ensure contribution to rural development, province and region economy, insurance institutions, agricultural policy makers, and further emphasizing the importance of environmental risks in dairy farming activity.Öğe Determining of Risk Sources and Risk Management Strategies in Dairy Farms: A Case of Canakkale Province(Galenos Publ House, 2019) Ozsayin, DamlaThis study was aimed to determine farmers' risk sources and risk management strategies in dairy cattle farms in Canakkale Province. Data were obtained from 302 farms selected by stratified random sampling method from dairy farms in Biga and Can districts of Canakkale province in Turkey between May 2017 and September 2017. Descriptive statistics and factor analysis were used to analyze the data. The results of this study show that the most important risk source for farmers was lack of credit availability. This risk was followed by inadequacy of artificial insemination and increase in debt amount. Parasite control was the most important risk management for farmers. This was followed by off-farm work, off-farm investment and on-farm measures. As a solution to the lack of credit availability, it should be provided to ease of repayment in credit use and to inceasing opportunities to loan use with low interest rate of farmers. In terms of parasite control in farms, it is important to the use of regularly parasitic drugs and determining of an effective parasite control program. As a result, it is expected to contribute to farmers and agricultural policy makers of the findings of this research.Öğe Socio-economic Structure of Farmers That Make Sheep Breeding and Practices Related to Their Sheep Breeding Activities(Kahramanmaras Sutcu Imam Univ Rektorlugu, 2019) Ozsayin, Damla; Everest, BenguAim of this study was to examine the socio-economic structure of farmers of sheep breeding in Gokceada district of Canakkale province and to determine their practices related to farmers' breeding activity. The data of the present study were obtained from surveying of 125 farms of sheep breeding by using the simple random sampling method. Descriptive statistics and 5-point likert-type scale were used to analyze the data. According to the results of study, it was found that the average age of farmers was 48.2 years, the average year of schooling of farmers was 7.8, the average household size was 4.2 persons, the average experience of farmers in sheep breeding was also 24 years and 10.4% of the farmers had the highest income (>= 50.001TL). Furthermore, the most factor that is pay attention in brood stock selection and in the milking were determined as ''I look at the physical characteristics of the animal'' and ''keeping to hygienic measures of farmer that make milking'' concept for farmers that dealing with sheep breeding, respectively. As a result, this study is expected to contribute district's economy and to rural development.
