Öğe A potential landslide area investigated by 2.5D electrical resistivity tomography: case study from Canakkale, Turkey(Springer Heidelberg, 2016) Coskun, Nart; Cakir, Ozcan; Erduran, Murat; Kutlu, Yusuf Arif; Cetiner, Ziya SedatGeophysical methods provide important tools to investigate the shallow earth. One of these methods is electrical resistivity tomography (ERT), which has the capability to provide spatial and volumetric information on both subsurface structures and property variations. Specifically, the ERT is an important tool to define the geometry and characteristics of landslides. In this study, we share our results for an electrical resistivity tomography survey that we conducted on a field where the city of Canakkale, Turkey has a plan to build a War Museum approximately 56 acres wide. The construction field under consideration presents potential landslide risks prominent with high slopes on especially the northeastern side of the area. Because of possible intense load on the ground anticipated from deployment of heavy artillery and also from construction sites, landslide risks in the field are significantly increased. Quaternary-aged alluvial formations consisting of unconsolidated clastic sediments cover the region. In order to investigate the area, we carried out 2.5-dimensional resistivity survey using a multi-channel, multi-electrode system along 16 profiles with a total length of 2016 m. Borehole information from ten close wells was used to aid the interpretation of resistivity sections. The results showed that the shallow electrical structure beneath the study area is multi-layered of which the second layer from the top has the lowest resistivity and then the resistivity values steadily increase with depth. The low resistivity in the second layer is likely caused by extra water injection into the system from relatively high topographic structures to the southeast and also from nearby water channel that partly perimeters the study area. The bottom of low resistivity layer exhibits potential landslide surface overriding the deeper slate bedrock with relatively high resistivity. The excess load after the planned construction may trigger catastrophic slip along this slip interface. Based on our observations, we proposed some protective measures to avoid the landslides in the considered area.Öğe A PRELIMINARY RESULTS OF A SURVEY TO MEASURE NATURAL DISASTER RESILIENCE(Rating Academy, 2018) Tükenmez, Ömer; Kutlu, Yusuf ArifIn order to develop a systematic resilience to natural disasters, it is necessary to study local individual and social trends. The purpose of this study is to survey natural disaster resilience on local disaster victims of 6 February 2017 Ayvacık-Gülpınar Earthquake using the Face-to-Face Questionnaire Technique. The scope of the study is limited to the preliminary results obtained from the questionnaire preparation process in order to measure to what extent local disaster victims recover their losses caused by the main shock. As the survey method, the face-to-face questionnaire technique, offering the authorized researchers the opportunity to explain the questions and fill out the form due to the low local literacy rate, is preferred. A trial forty-questions questionnaire is to determine to the demographic structure of group of the disaster victims and the short and long term effects of the earthquake. Through examination of findings in every aspect, to return to normal social life the average time is more than one year after the earthquake. In addition, ongoing unusual health problems manifested by insomnia diagnosed on some subjects can be explained by the fact that local psychological disaster resilience is partially weakÖğe A Quest for why gemstones are used for healing(Rating Academy, 2022) Kutlu, Yusuf Arif; Çalık, Ayten; Ulugergerli, Emin UğurIt is believed that healing power of gemstones increases to the sense of well-being. But it’s unclear how it works. The aim of this study is to investigate the usage of the stones for therapeutic purposes by means of a survey. In this study, a face-to-face survey technique was employed to investigate personal reasons to use the gemstones for healing purposes. After 402 volunteers from various backgrounds were selected and asked them to answer 17 questions, the dataset was analyzed using IBM Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS). Results showed that women are most interested in gemstones, because they are used for jewellery. The most popular healing stones were Agate, Amethyst, Ruby, Amber and Quartz. Their eye-catching colours together with their healing power that are promoted in social media, strengthen the perception that natural stones can be used for healing or therapy. Healing stones also give spiritual serenity, which is the most important positive effect on people. Some reasons that push people to seek healing from natural stones included hoping of cure, seeking alternative medicine, knowing what specific stones are used as healing tools, searching ways to relieve stress and also protecting against evil spirits. It is stated that people’s hope of cure strengthens the use of these stones as a healing tool.Öğe Placebo effect of gemstones(Rating Academy, 2022) Kutlu, Yusuf Arif; Çalık, Ayten; Ulugergerli, Emin UğurThe placebo effect can be explained as a response other than the specific influence of a treatment which comes from the psychosocial forces surrounding the treatment. This effect can be observed all over the world when people use healing stones. In this study, the perception of healing stones was investigated using the questionnaire technique. A popular online site helped reach 415 volunteers who participated in an online survey. Evaluation of the results revealed that gemstones, which are promoted as healing tools and give hope for getting better, have a positive effect on people. On the other hand, even if gemstones are preferred only for use as ornamental stones, jewelry and accessories, then no positive effect is expected from their healing powerÖğe Precursors of The Elazig-Sivrice Earthquake (January 24th, 2020)(Afet ve Acil Durum Yonetimi Baskanligi (AFAD), 2022) Gurbuz, Seval; Kutlu, Yusuf ArifThe scope of this study is to investigate the relationship between the observable abnormal changes in the nature, animals, electronic devices and the large-scale earthquakes for the 24 January 2020 Mw=6.8 Elazig-Sivrice Earthquake. These abnormal changes were collected by using face-to-face survey technique on 127 volunteer disaster victims in the shelters located in the center of Elazig province after the earthquake. The questionnaire is applied to 127 disaster victims in different disaster relief shelter areas located in Elazig after the earthquake. According to the survey findings, a total of 117 unusual observations about humans, a total of 214 unusual observations about animals, a total of 147 unusual observations of the sky, a total of 165 unusual observations of the weather, a total of 59 unusual observations on spring waters and fountain, a total of 31 unusual observations on lakes and dams and a total of 73 extraordinary observations in electrical-electronic devices are observed. As a result, it can be said that the abnormalities in the nature, animals and electronic devices warm to us within the month before the Earthquakes. To record the abnormal changes, which are also observed before many major earthquakes on a global scale, as earthquake precursors are going to contribute to the development of earthquake prediction studies and early warning systems at local scale. © 2022 ARSMB-KVBMG. Underground cities are commonly known to exist in Cappadocia. The current study has obtained important clues that there may be another one under the Nevsehir Castle region. Several 2.5-D resistivity profiles totaling approximately 4 km in length surrounding the Nevsehir Castle are measured to determine the distribution of electrical resistivities under the study area. Several high resistivity anomalies with a depth range 8-20 m are discovered to associate with a systematic void structure beneath the Nevsehir Castle. Because of the high-resolution resistivity measurement system currently employed, we were able to isolate the void anomalies from the embedding structure. Using 3-D visualization techniques, we show the extension of the void structure under the measured profiles.Öğe ŞİFALI TAŞLARIN PLASEBO ETKİSİ ÜZERİNE BİR ANKET ÇALIŞMASININ İLK SONUÇLARI(Rating Academy, 2018) Kutlu, Yusuf Arif; Çalık, Ayten; Ulugergerli, Emin UğurSon birkaç on yılda, şifalı olarak bilinen taşlar yapay olarak üretilip doğal olanların aksine çok düşük fiyatla piyasaya sürülmeye devam etmektedir. HAP görevlilerinin KBRN bilgi ve bilinç düzeylerinin, katılım sağlanan eğitim ve tatbikatların ise içerik açısından yeterli olmadığı görülmektedir.Öğe TO INVESTIGATE INSARAG ACCREDITATION PROCESS IN TURKEY USING THE PARTICIPANT OBSERVER METHOD(Rating Academy, 2018) Ateş, Çağla Karakaş; Kutlu, Yusuf ArifThe natural disaster intervention experiences have shown that all national and/or international aid organizations could not work together effectively. The failures working together in international search and rescue operations conduced to found the unique organization under the UN (United Nations). INSARAG (International Search and Rescue Advisory Group) was established in 1991. In Africa-Europe-Middle East, America and Asia-Pacific regions, 57 countries and 81 organizations have contributed to the INSARAG accreditation process. The purpose of this study is to carry out a local institutional review related to INSARAG accreditation in Turkey using the Participant Observer Method. After getting the necessary permissions from AFAD (Disaster And Emergency Management Presidency), the person who carried out the study took part of INSARAG accreditation of Adana Civil Defense Search and Rescue Association. In addition, to get information from the local authorities was to join in presentation of the completed activities and the current activities. The findings are evaluated, it is concluded that the educated volunteers are the most important part of the search and rescue processes.
