Öğe Comparison of Emergency Medical Services Cases in Different Types of Mass Gathering Events Held Between 2015-2018 in Turkey(Galenos Publ House, 2022) Kocak, Huseyin; Tuncay, IbrahimAim: The aim of the study is to evaluate the Emergency Medical Services (EMS) cases in some mass gatherings held in Turkey between the years of 2015-2018 and to compare the patient presentation rate (PPR) and transport to hospital rate (TTHR) rates of different types of mass gatherings (MGs). Materials and Methods: The research is a descriptive cross-sectional epidemiological study. The population of the study consists of 112 EMS records of the Commemoration Events of the Canakkale Land Warfare (CECLW), Zeytinli Rock Festival (ZRF), Summer Deaflympics (DEAFLYMPICS) and European Youth Olympic Winter Festival (EYOF) organizations held in Turkey between the years of 2015-2018. Results: The hours of 12:00 p.m. - 05:59 p.m. (34.0%, n=161). 57.4% (n=272) of the cases were due to medical 474 EMS cases were examined in the study. 49.5% (n=235) of the cases were in DEAFLYMPICS and 57.6% (n=273) of the cases were male. The mean age of the cases was 30.3 +/- 16.5 (minimum: 0, maximum: 92). Most cases occurred between reasons. According to the triage codes, 57.7% (n=153) of the cases were green, 32.3% (n=153) were red and 15.8% (n=75) were yellow. When the results of the cases were analyzed, 54.0% (n=256) of the cases were transferred to hospital, 20.7% (n=98) were on-site intervention and 14.1% were refusal of transfer. Conclusion: As a result, differences in PPR and TTHR rates are observed in different types of MG.Öğe Delayed graft function in living-donor renal transplantation: a single-center experience with 1537 patients(E-Century Publishing Corp, 2016) Ozkul, Faruk; Erbis, Halil; Yilmaz, Vural Taner; Ozturk, Bunyamin; Kocak, Huseyin; Osmanoglu, Ibrahim Ali; Dinckan, AyhanObjectives: To analyze the incidence, clinical characteristics and possible causes of delayed graft function (DGF) among a large number of living kidney transplant recipients at a single center. Patients and Methods: We analyzed the medical records of 1537 patients over 18 years of age who received a kidney transplant from a living donor between January 2003 and June 2014. The demographic characteristics of the patients, graft survivals, acute rejection rates and renal functions were compared between patients with and without DGF. Results: Longer dialysis time before transplantation (50.6 +/- 53.1 vs. 31.4 +/- 42.9 months; P<0.001) and lower donor GFR (48.2 +/- 10.2 vs. 45.4 +/- 13 months; P=0.014) were associated with a greater incidence of DGF in this series. The DGF cases showed a higher incidence of acute rejection episodes (19.9% vs. 4.8%), chronic graft dysfunction (10% vs. 1%), prolonged hospitalization (16.8 +/- 6.7 days vs. 8.3 +/- 5.6 days), and worse renal function after 1-year follow-up period compared with non-DGF patients. Conclusions: Longer dialysis time before transplantation and lower donor GFR were associated with a higher risk for DGF, with prolonged hospitalization time, worse graft prognosis and higher rates of acute rejection episodes and chronic graft dysfunction.Öğe Determination of individual preparation behaviors of emergency health services personnel towards disasters(Wolters Kluwer Medknow Publications, 2015) Kocak, Huseyin; Caliskan, Cuneyt; Kaya, Edip; Yavuz, Omer; Altintas, Kerim HakanObjective: To determine certain behaviors regarding preparation of Canakkale 112 ambulance service personnel towards emergency situations and disasters. Methods: This study is an epidemiological descriptive study. The population of the study consists of 281 people working for Command Control Center and Emergency Medical Services Station of Canakkale 112 Ambulance Service. About 176 people agreed to participate in the study were interviewed within the scope of the study. Necessary information was obtained by a survey. In the statistical analysis of the study, descriptive statistics, Mann Whitney, Kruskal Wallis and Chi square tests were used. Results: The participation rate of the study was 62.6% (176 people). The participants were in the range of 17-64 years of age. The average age of the participants was (31.6 +/- 9.1) years. About 54% of the participants (95 people) were under the age of 29 and 54% of them (95 people) were male, 23.3% of them (41 people) held a bachelor degree and 35.7% (63 people) of them were Emergency Medical Technicians, respectively. In the study, a statistical relationship was found between some questions of the survey and some variables such as age, gender, degree, membership status for non-governmental organizations, experience of emergency situations, being trained against disasters and desire to have such a training (P < 0.005). Conclusions: As a result of the study, a significant relationship was found between being trained related to disaster and emergency situations and development of positive attitudes about training for disasters and emergencies. This indicates that people, no matter what educational level they are in, have to be trained for disasters and emergencies.Öğe Effect of age on the outcome of renal transplantation: A single-center experience(Professional Medical Publications, 2016) Ozkul, Faruk; Erbis, Halil; Yilmaz, Vural Taner; Kocak, Huseyin; Osmanoglu, Ibrahim Ali; Dinckan, AyhanObjectives: To analyze the effects of old age on renal transplantation (Tx) results and graft survival, and compared elderly patient population with the young patients. Methods: A total of 1946 renal transplant were performed from 1537 living and 409 cadaveric donors between 2003 and 2014. The recipients were divided into two groups according to their age at the time of transplantation. The young age group consisted of 18 -59-year-old, and the elderly group consisted of the ones >= 60 years. Results: Acute rejection was seen in 19.5% of the young age group while this rate was 16.7% in the old age group (p=0.535). DGF was seen in 6.3% of the young age group, and in 13.5% of the old age group (p<0.001). Analysis of the overall survival rates demonstrated that 1.6% of the patients in the young age group and 6.8% of the patients in the old age groups died (p=0.003). Conclusions: Renal transplant had high graft survival rates in the elderly as in the young patients. However, the risks for complications were higher in the older age group compared to the younger age group. Thus, it is important to make a careful selection among elderly candidates for renal transplantation.Öğe Risk Communication in Public Health Practices and Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19): Social Media Analysis of Health Authorities(Bezmialem Vakif Univ, 2020) Karakoc, Mirac Nevzat; Kocak, Huseyin; Caliskan, Cuneyt; Kinik, KeremObjective: This study aims to evaluate information on the website of the Ministry of Health about the COVID-19 pandemic, the social media accounts of health authorities, and the COVID-19 cases. Methods: In this descriptive ecological research, the content analysis of the posts about COVID-19, which were shared for health professionals and the public on the official website of the Ministry of Health, was conducted. The content traffic of the social media accounts of the health authorities about the pandemic and the daily number of cases along with recovery and death rates related to the pandemic were analyzed. Results: The first COVID-19 post was sent on 22 January 2020 through the official Twitter account of the Minister of Health. After the first tweet about COVID-19, the first positive case was seen in the 50th day, while the first death was seen in the 57th day and the first recovery case was seen in the 67th day. There is a significant positive correlation between the number of days passed and the number of cases, deaths, recoveries, comments, retweets and likes that the tweets of the Minister received; between the number of cases and the number of deaths and recovery cases; between fatal cases and recovery cases. Conclusion: A correlation was found between the tweet traffic of the health authorities' twitter accounts and the number of COVID-19 cases, deaths, recoveries and days passed. Therefore, social platforms can be an important risk communication tool for public health in informing and managing the community in disasters like pandemics.Öğe Web search behaviors and infodemic attitudes regarding COVID-19 in Turkey: A framework study for improving response and informing policy on the COVID-19 infodemic(Frontiers Media Sa, 2022) Caliskan, Cuneyt; Ozsezer, Gozde; Pay, Melek; Demir, Gulcan; Celebi, Ismet; Kocak, HuseyinObjectiveThis study aimed to develop a framework regarding COVID-19 infodemic response and policy informing through focusing on infodemic concepts circulating on the online search engine in Turkey in relation to the COVID-19 outbreak and comparing the contents of these concepts with Maslow's hierarchy of needs and disaster stages. Materials and methodsThe universe of this descriptive epidemiological research consists of internet search activities on COVID-19 circulating online on Google Trends between March 10, 2020, when the first case was seen in Turkey, and June 01, 2020, when the lockdown restrictions were lifted. FindingsThere was no internet trend regarding a misinformed attitude within the given date range. While an infodemic attitude toward superficial attitude and racist attitude in the internet environment was detected for 1 week, an infodemic attitude toward definitive attitude was detected for 2 weeks. The non-infodemic concepts were more common than the other infodemic attitudes. The infodemic concepts were able to reach Maslow's physiological, safety, and social need levels. With the infodemic concepts obtained, a COVID-19 development process framework was developed. The framework consists of three domains (COVID-19, applications and outcomes), including disaster phases and health/social impacts, built on seven public health epochs. ResultsA systematized COVID-19 development process framework was modeled in order to conceptualize COVID-19 internet searches and to reveal the development processes and outcomes.
