Öğe Assessment of effects of pomegranate seed oil on egg quality of Japanese (Coturnix coturnix japonica) quail(Innovhub Ssi-Area Ssog, 2020) Ogutcu, Mustafa; Dincer, Elif; Karabayir, AliThe aim of this study was to investigate the effects of pomegranate seed oil on blood parameters and egg quality of Japanese quails (Coturnix coturnix japonica). For this reason, a total of 120 mixed quails at 5-7-day ages were divided into 4 groups (30 quails in each group) and placed in cages. For the feeding study, feed supplemented with 1, 3 and 5% pomegranate seed oil and control feed with no oil addition were prepared, the trial lasted 12 weeks. Quail blood parameters, egg quality characteristics, fatty acid composition, mineral compositions and combustion energy values were determined. The supplementation of pomegranate seed oil in quail feed did not affect the physical quality parameters of the eggs significantly. The total saturated fatty acids and polyunsaturated fatty acids increased, while the monounsaturated fatty acids and total unsaturated fatty acids decreased. These results clearly demonstrated that supplementation of the quail diet with pomegranate seed oil increased total amount of CLnA and n-6 fatty acids in egg.Öğe Effect of different feed restriction programs in broilers on parameters of blood biochemistry(Asian Journal Of Chemistry, 2008) Karabayir, Ali; Mendes, MehmetIn the study, the effects of different feeding programs on some blood biochemistry and tonic immobility durations in Ross 308 broilers were investigated. When aged 7 d, 60 chicks were divided into three groups to this end as AD, FR and NF in such a way that each group contained 20 birds. The tonic immobility durations, some parameters of blood biochemistry and the H:L ratios, by utilizing the heterophil and lymphocyte counts were determined. As a result of the analysis of variance carried out, it was observed that the H:L ratios of the birds in group NF were higher than those of the birds in groups AD and FR (p = 0.031). No statistically significant difference existed between the tonic immobility durations of the birds in groups AD and FR (p > 0.05) whereas it was observed that the tonic immobility durations of the birds in group NF were clearly higher than those of the groups AD and FR (p = 0.021). Starting from these findings, it was concluded that increasing the duration of feed restriction caused a serious level of stress on birds.Öğe Effect of Disinfectant Added Drinking Water on the Growth Performance of Different Hen Strains(Zoological Soc Pakistan, 2018) Karabayir, Ali; Arifoglu, Nazan; Ogutcu, MustafaThe effect of disinfectant (2% Halamid, N-Chloro-Paratoluenesulphonamide trihydrate) addition into drinking water on the growth performance of three different chicken strains, Plymouth Rock, Australorp and Village (local mix-breed village chickens) was evaluated in the present study. Supplementation of disinfectant clearly improved the microbiological quality of chicken drinking water, by reducing the total bacteria, coliform and E.coli counts. On the other hand, disinfectant addition decreased feed and water intake of all chicken strains. Furthermore, the results revealed that feed and water intake was strain dependent. Lower feed conversion ratio was observed for chickens provided with disinfectant supplemented drinking water. When considering the live weight gain (LWG) monitored through the 10-week trial, it was found out that the live weight gain of the Australorp and Village strains were negatively affected by disinfectant addition, while the live weight gain of the Plymouth strain was not affected by addition of disinfectant. In the present study, it was shown that addition of disinfectant clearly improved the microbiological quality of drinking water, while the response of different chicken strains to disinfectant addition may vary.Öğe Effects of Different Storage Durations of Japanese Quails (Coturnix coturnix japonica) Eggs on Their Hatching Chick Rates and Live Weight Gains(Medwell Online, 2010) Karabayir, AliThis study has been conducted to examine hatching performance, fertility rate and hatching chick rate of the quail eggs which have been stored in different durations. Moreover, live weight gains of obtained chicks from the quail eggs have also been examined. Eggs to be hatched have been stored for durations of 1, 4, 7 and 10 days. The difference of 10 day-stored eggs were found statistically significant (p < 0.05) compared to other egg groups stored for different durations in relation to their hatching performance, fertility rate, hatching chick rate and live weight gain increases. Best results were obtained from the 7 days stored eggs. The hatching performance of this egg group was 74%, fertility rate was 82%, hatching chick rate was 90% and live weight increase was 44.40 g.Öğe Effects of Milk Feeding Frequency on Growth of Holstein Calves(Medwell Online, 2008) Ugur, Feyzi; Karabayir, Ali; Bagci, Habibe; Cagras, IskenderThe study was undertaken to compare the performance of Holstein calves fed with milk once and twice a day in terms of weight and body measurements. Calves stayed with their mothers for 3 days after parturition. The calves were then transferred to individual pens and fed. The animals were allocated to 2 groups. The calves in the first group were fed with 7% milk of their birth weight until weaning. Milk was given once a day at 08:00 in the morning. The calves in the second group were also fed with 7% milk of their birth weight but received the milk in 2 meals, at 08:00 and 18:00 until weaning. The animals in both the groups were weaned at 60 days of age. The effect of application of 2 different feeding frequencies with milk on the growth characteristics of the calves was found insignificant. The average weigth of 4 month old calves and the mean daily weight gains at the period between the birth and 4 months of age for the first group were 80.8 +/- 1.8 and 0.34 +/- 0.01 kg and for the second group were 84.7 +/- 1.8 and 0.37 +/- 0.01 kg, respectively (p>0.05). Body measurements, such as heart girth, body lenght, height at withers, chest depth and front shank circumference were not significantly influenced by the groups.Öğe Growth performance, haematological and serum biochemical profiles in rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) fed diets with varying levels of lupin (Lupinus albus) meal(Wiley, 2018) Acar, Umit; Kesbic, Osman Sabri; Yılmaz, Sevdan; Karabayir, AliA feeding experiment was conducted to study the response of rainbow trout juveniles fed different levels of lupin meal in diets for rainbow trout juveniles. Very limited information is available on the relationship between dietary lupin meal in rainbow trout health status. Therefore, this study aimed to determine the effects of lupin meal inclusion levels (0%, 15%, 30%, 45%, and 60%) on growth performance and health status of rainbow trout juveniles. The experimental diets (LM0, LM15, LM30, LM45, and LM60) were formulated iso-nitrogenous (41% crude protein) and iso-calorific (18% crude lipid). The fish were fed twice a day. As a result, the best growth performance was observed in fish fed with LM15 and LM30 diets. No significant differences were detected among experimental groups in terms of body compositions. The haematological values showed significantly (p<0.05) lower heamatocrit and mean cellular volume (MCV) in the group of LM60 compared with the other groups. For the other haematological parameters such as haemoglobin, red blood cell and mean cellular haemoglobin studied in the present study no significant differences were observed (p<0.05). The lupin meal included groups showed significant reduction in total protein (TPROT), triglyceride (TROG), cholesterol (CHOL), alkaline phosphatase (ALP), and lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) compared with the control group (p<0.05). The inclusion of lupin meal did not cause any changes in glucose (GLU), glutamic oxaloacetic transaminase (GOT), and glutamic pyruvic transaminase (GPT) between the treatment groups (p<0.05). In conclusion, lupin meal might be used in rainbow trout diets up to 30% without any malnutrition effect on growth performance, haemotological and serum biochemical parameters.Öğe INFLUENCE OF DISINFECTANT ADDED TO DRINKING WATER ON QUAIL GROWTH PERFORMANCE AND EGG QUALITY(Parlar Scientific Publications (P S P), 2018) Karabayir, Ali; Ogutcu, Mustafa; Arifoglu, NazanIn the present study, the effect of disinfectant addition into drinking water on quail (Coturnix coturnix japonica) growth performance, egg quality, and water quality parameters was investigated. Drinking water quality was positively affected by addition of disinfectant (sodium N-chloro-p-toluenesulfonamide trihydrate). Microbial load of drinking water was reduced by disinfectant addition. Feed intake of the quails provided with disinfected drinking water was lower, while water intake and live weight gain was similar between the trial groups. Quail egg quality was affected by addition of disinfectant. The eggs of the quails provided disinfected drinking water had lower egg weight, shell strength and thickness, but the protein and mineral composition was not affected by disinfectant addition. The Haugh units of the eggs of the quails provided with disinfected water were higher, thus these types of eggs could be readily more suitable for the bakery industry. It can be concluded that addition of disinfectant into quail drinking water may improve the status and egg quality of quails.Öğe Some Behavioral Traits of American Bronze and White (California) Turkeys Grazing on Pasture(Medwell Online, 2008) Karabayir, Ali; Tölü, Cemil; Ersoy, I. ErbilIn this study, grazing, locomotor activity, lying, standing, feather pecking, sexual activity, drinking and aggressive pecking of American bronze and white (California) turkeys were investigated. Twenty bronze (10 male, 10 female) and 20 white (10 male, 10 female) turkeys were used. Observation of behavioral traits of turkeys was carried out once every 2 weeks between 10:00-13:00. Recording of the traits was made at 10 min intervals using Time-Sampling method. The data of bronze turkeys for 9 weeks (August-September) and of white turkeys for 4 weeks (October-November) were used in the evaluation of observations. Throughout observation period, 65% of female and 59% of male bronze turkeys displayed grazing behavior, while it was 74% in white turkeys. The difference between the 2 sexes in bronze turkeys was statistically significant (p<0.01). Of bronze turkeys, 18% of females and 22% of males showed lying behavior, on the other hand 12% of white turkeys showed the same behavior. The difference in this behavioral trait between males and females of bronze turkeys was found significant (p<0.05). Aggressive pecking behavior was the least observed trait in bronze turkeys by 0.06 and 0.3% for females and males, respectively and 0.4% for white turkeys. On the day of observation, though the difference between males and females of bronze turkeys was not significant, it was significant in white turkeys (p<0.01).Öğe Some Behavioral Traits of the Japanese Quails (Coturnix coturnix japonica) Rearing in Cages(Medwell Online, 2008) Karabayir, Ali; Tölü, CemilIn this study, some behaviors of the Japanese quails, raised in cages, such as feeding (F), drinking (D), activation (A), lying (L), standing (S), feather pecking (FP) and aggressive pecking (AP) were observed once a week between 10:30 and 11:30 am. The behavioral observations for 20 quails were launched when the quails were 3 days of age and continued for 5 weeks. In the study, where the time-sampling method was applied, the behavioral traits observed once in every 5 min during a 4 h observation were recorded. The Japanese quails at the first 5 weeks of age displayed feeding and drinking behaviors most in the study. Activation and lying behaviors were observed at close frequencies whereas feather pecking and aggressive pecking behaviors occurred at rather low levels. The feeding behavior was observed 0.40 times more at a significant level in the 1st week than in the 5th week (p<0.01). The feeding behavior, which occurred at the highest level in the first week, had a descending course and was observed at the lowest level in the 5th week. It was observed that the feeding behavior in the other weeks was 0.36 times lower in the 2nd week, 0.31 times lower in the 3rd week and 0.19 times lower in the 4th week than in the 5th week. The feeding behavior was at an insignificant level between the first 3 weeks and the 2nd, 3rd and 4th weeks. It was found out that the Japanese female quails displayed feeding behavior 0.22 times more at a significant level than the male quails (p<0.01).Öğe The Effect of Floor Differences in Cages on the Incubation Results and Live Weight of Japanese Quails(Medwell Online, 2012) Aytac, Sergul; Karabayir, AliThis study was carried out to assess the effects of floor differences in cages on the incubation results of quails and live weight. Drinking water samples from 6 extensive laying hen farms were analysed for physical parameters such as temperature, dissolved oxygen, pH and electrical conductivity. The microbial examination of the drinking water samples revealed that the drinking water used in the extensive laying hen farms was not adequate. Similarly, the evaluation of the mineral and heavy metal concentrations of the drinking water samples showed that some heavy metals such as mercury were present in the samples in concentrations exceeding the legal standards. In the present study, to the best of our knowledge, for the first time a comprehensive evaluation of the mineral and heavy metal composition of the drinking water used in extensive poultry farms was accomplished.
