Öğe Annual Reproductive Cycle and Meat Yield of the Wedge Clam Donax trunculus Linnaeus, 1758 from Black Sea(Springer Int Publ Ag, 2024) Yildiz, Harun; Acarli, Sefa; Vural, Pervin; Gunduz, FettahThe study aims to determine the reproductive cycle, the condition index, meat yield, shell component index, shell thickness index and gonad index of bivalve Donax trunculus inhabiting the Kefken-Babal & imath; location on the Black Sea in relation to environmental parameters between November 2013 and October 2014. Its gonadal development began in November. D. trunculus was in the inactive stage during autumn. Spawning was observed from May (18 degrees C) to August (28 degrees C). Sex ratios were not equal and number of males was higher during the study period (1.13:1) with one hermaphrodite individual only. Being synchronous between sexes based on histological analysis, the reproductive cycle consists of six stages. The study showed that the most ideal period to harvest of D. trunculus was between December and May, especially when the meat yield and condition index were determined to be highest.Öğe REPRODUCTION CYCLES OF VEINED RAPA WHELK (Rapana Venosa, VALENCIENNES 1846) IN THE MIDDLE BLACK SEA (YAKAKENT, SAMSUN)(Parlar Scientific Publications (P S P), 2022) Yildiz, Harun; Gunduz, FettahThe veined Rapa whelk, Rapana venosa (Valenciennes, 1846), have a significant commercial value in Turkey. This study was carried out between December 2013 and November 2014 in the Black Sea. R. venosa was collected to determine the reproductive cycle, the gonadosomatic index, gonad index. Monthly variation in gonad development stages revealed that R. venosa has an annual reproductive cycle and long gonadal activity period. Spawning occurred mainly between May and July and peaked in July and in September. The gonad development stages of males and females differed significantly (P<0.05) between months. In November, 1 out of 30 samples were found as a hermaphrodite, containing both sperm and eggs in the same area. Male individuals were dominant during the study period (1.0:2.4 female: male).
