(Elsevier Sci Ltd, 2024) Demir, Oznur Ispir; Sonmez, Betul; Gul, Duygu; Duygulu, Sergul
Aim: To determine the relationship between economic resources (household income), work volition and career adaptability and the perception of future decent work securement of senior nursing students based on the Psychology of Working Theory. Background: Future decent work securement is essential for young people to successfully enter to working life after graduation. Therefore, identifying factors that affect future decent work can help make nursing a desirable career option. Design: Cross-sectional and correlational design. Methods: This study was performed between May and June 2022 in three public universities in Turkey. The sample consisted of the senior students in the nursing undergraduate programs (n = 255). The data were collected using the Student Information Form, the Work Volition Scale-Student Version, the Career AdaptAbilities Scale-Short Form and the Perceived Future Decent Work Securement Scale. Descriptive tests and Pearson's correlation analysis were used to analyze the data. The hypothesis model was tested using path analysis. Results: This study found significant positive correlations between household income, work volition, career adaptability and future decent work securement. The direct effects of household income on work volition, work volition on career adaptability and future decent work securement were also significant. However, there was no significant effect of career adaptability on future decent work securement. In addition, work volition was found to have an indirect effect on the relationship between household income and career adaptability and future decent work securement. Conclusions: This study, where the Psychology of Working Theory was tested on a sample of nursing students, drew attention to the importance of work volition in developing the perception of future decent work securement. Career adaptability and decent work perception can be improved through work volition of the students.

Background Talent management plays a critical role in attracting, developing, and retaining nurses and is effective in the formation of job satisfaction and organizational commitment. Methods This correlational study sample consisted of 482 volunteering nurses who were selected through a convenience sampling method. Data were collected using an information form, the Talent Management Scale, the Minnesota Satisfaction Questionnaire, and the Organizational Commitment Scale. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, Pearson correlation analysis, single linear regression, and hierarchical regression analysis. The Baron and Kenny model was used to determine the mediation effect. Findings Talent management affected the intrinsic, extrinsic subdimensions of job satisfaction and the total score and the affective commitment, normative commitment, and continuance commitment significantly and positively. Job satisfaction had a full mediating role in the effect of talent management on affective commitment and continuance commitment and a partial mediating role in affecting normative commitment. Conclusion Talent management in organizations can increase nurses' job satisfaction and organizational commitment and nurses' job satisfaction can play a mediating role in the effect of talent management on organizational commitment. Implications for nursing and health policy This study demonstrates that nurse managers and decision-makers should adopt talent management practices in nursing. Desired results such as nurses' job satisfaction and organizational commitment can be achieved by focusing on the development of nurses' talents.

The relationship between basic psychological needs satisfaction, career adaptability and career construction in nursing students: A career construction theory perspective
(Elsevier Sci Ltd, 2024) Sonmez, Betul; Gul, Duygu; Gumus, Ceyda
Aim: To determine (i) the relationship between basic psychological needs satisfaction (competence, relatedness and autonomy), career adaptability and career construction, (ii) the role of career adaptability in this relationship and (iii) the variables that predict career construction in nursing students. Background: Career Construction Theory, which predicts that appropriate career behaviour, facilitated by individual characteristics, promotes a person's career outcomes, has not yet been tested in nursing students. Design: Cross-sectional and correlational design. Methods: A total of 536 students who were reached through a snowball sampling method among nursing students in the 2022-2023 academic year in T & uuml;rkiye constituted the sample of the study. Data were collected online using the Student Information Form, the Basic Psychological Needs Satisfaction Scale, Career Adapt-Abilities Scale-Short Form and the Student Career Construction Inventory. Data analysis was performed using Model 4 in Hayes' PROCESS Macro and hierarchical linear regression. Results: Autonomy, competence and relatedness were found to have a direct significant effect on career adaptability and overall career construction score ( p<. 001). Career adaptability was found to have a partial mediating role in the effect of autonomy, competence and relatedness on overall career construction score ( p<. 001). When examining the predictor variables for the career construction score, it was found that some variables, such as not having willingly chosen the nursing profession, had a negative effect, while a positive effect was found in the need for competence from the basic psychological needs satisfaction subscales and concern and confidence from the career adaptability subscales ( p<. 05). Conclusions: Nursing educators should ensure that nursing students receive career counseling during their education according to Career Construction Theory to make effective career decisions by allowing them to selfidentify and self-discover. Accordingly, career guidance, career education and career counseling initiatives can be implemented in accordance with students' needs.

The relationship between inclusive leadership, organizational justice, work engagement and organizational citizenship behavior in healthcare workers
(Emerald Group Publishing Ltd, 2024) Akgerman, Ayse; Gul, Duygu; Sonmez, Betul
PurposeBased on social exchange theory, this study aims to determine the relationship between inclusive leadership in their managers and organizational justice perceived by healthcare workers and work engagement and organizational citizenship behavior.Design/methodology/approachA cross-sectional and correlational study was performed by healthcare workers (n = 330) working in a city hospital for at least six months in T & uuml;rkiye. Descriptive statistics, correlation and regression analysis were used in data analysis. The hypotheses were tested using Hayes' PROCESS macro (v4.1).FindingsIt was determined that inclusive leadership had a positive significant effect on organizational justice, work engagement and organizational citizenship behavior; and organizational justice had a positive significant effect on work engagement and organizational citizenship behavior. In addition, it was found that work engagement also had a significant effect on organizational citizenship behavior. It was found that organizational justice had a partial mediating role between inclusive leadership and work engagement, while its mediating role between inclusive leadership and organizational citizenship behavior was not statistically significant. In addition, work engagement was found to have a partial mediating role in the effect of inclusive leadership on organizational citizenship behavior.Research limitations/implicationsThe limitations of this study can be summarized as follows: First, the data were collected from the employees in a hospital based on the self-reports of the participants. The fact that the study used a cross-sectional design limited the establishment of a causal relationship between variables. Since the study was planned during the COVID-19 period, the participants were reached through convenience sampling. Isolation measures due to the pandemic led to a lower response rate than expected. To reveal more generalizable results, it may be recommended to collect the data at different periods in future studies and to include different types of healthcare institutions.Practical implicationsInclusive leadership of the healthcare managers will lead to positive employee outcomes by preventing the disadvantages brought by internal conflict in the work environment.Originality/valueThis study indicates that managers' inclusive leadership style will improve perceived organizational justice and work engagement and will lead employees to exhibit the desired extra-role behavior, such as organizational citizenship behavior.
