Öğe Evaluation of Brucella pericarditis cases by pooled analysis method(Refik Saydam National Public Health Agency (RSNPHA), 2023) Evlice, Oğuz; Yilmaz, Mustafa; Çeviker, Sevil Alkan; Küçük, UğurObjective: Brucellosis is one of the most frequent zoonotic infectious diseases and is a global public health concern, particularly in developing countries. Brucellosis causes systemic symptoms and can affect different parts of the body. Brucellar pericarditis is a rare involvement of the cardiovascular system. This study aimed to investigate the clinical outcomes of Brucella pericarditis cases. Methods: A pooled analysis study was conducted by searching four international online databases with the terms “Brucella” and “pericarditis” and their synonyms. The full texts or abstracts were screened using these keywords. The publications were examined in terms of the age and gender of cases, publication year and country, additional diagnosis, diagnostic methods, treatments, and outcomes. Results: The study included 25 cases (14 males, 56%), with a mean age of 38.84 ± 9.7 (12-79) years. Systemic findings were present in 17 (68%) patients, and 17 (68%) had a cardiac presentation. 10 (40%) patients had retrosternal pain/ chest pain, 10 (40%) patients had pericardial frontman, and five (%10) cases had tachycardia. The most commonly used diagnostic method was a serological test (96%), and a positive blood culture result was determined in 64%. The Rose Bengal test was performed in seven cases, of which six had positive results. Complete recovery was reported for 22 cases, and death in two patients. Conclusion: Although brucellosis is less common in many developed countries, it should be keep in mind differential diagnosis in endemic areas. Brucellosis is a rare cause of pericarditis and requires specific treatment. Standard tube agglutination tests are highly sensitive and specific in the diagnosis of brucellosis. This non-invasive, practical test should be used in the differential diagnosis of pericarditis. © (2023), (Refik Saydam National Public Health Agency (RSNPHA)). The aim of this study is to conduct a bibliometric analysis of worldwide scientific outputs related to leishmaniasis and to provide a perspective for researchers on this topic. It also aimed to investigate the contribution of Türkiye to the leishmaniasis literature. Methods: This study was conducted using scientometric methodologies on leishmaniasis in the Web of Science database between 2003 and 2022. The visualizations were made with Vosviewer program. The most published institutions and organizations, countries, authors, trends in the number of publications and citations by year, H-indexes of the mostly publishing countries, the most popular keywords, scientific collaborations between countries, and many other bibliometric parameters were analyzed. Results: In the last 20 years, research on Leishmania has been conducted in 143 different countries/regions. Brazil is the leading country with 4.463 articles (29.071%). The United States of America, India, Iran, and Spain published more than 1.000 articles, followed by European countries (Spain, United Kingdom, France, Germany, and Italy). Conclusion: The number of publications, especially in endemic areas, was found to be limited other than Brazil. Studies in this area should be supported to ensure the eradication of the disease. © 2023 Turkish Society for Parasitology.Öğe Ocular Involvement of Brucellosis: A Pooled Analysis Study(Taylor and Francis Ltd., 2023) Evlice, Oğuz; Çeviker, Sevil Alkan; Filik, Armağan; Ağın, AbdullahAim: Brucellosis may affect the eye to varying degrees. The aim of this study was to investigate the ocular involvement of brucellosis and highlight key points. Material and Methods: Published literature in English language on the ocular involvement of brucellosis within last 30 years was evaluated. The PubMed international database was screened using certain keywords. Results: The study included 27 publications evaluating a total of 159 cases. The most common types of ocular involvement were uveitis (52.2%) and conjunctivitis (17.6%). Most cases had concomitant systemic brucellosis (27.7%), and the most commonly used diagnostic method was a serological test (92.4%). Of all the patients, 37.1% recovered with sequelae. Conclusion: Brucellosis may cause a wide range of ophthalmic manifestations, and an overlooked or late diagnosis may also lead to the development of sequelae or loss of vision. A routine ophthalmologic examination should be performed in all patients with systemic brucellosis.Öğe The Evaluation of Cases with Ocular Complications due to Bacillus Calmette-Guerin (BCG) Treatment using the Pool Analysis Method(Taylor and Francis Ltd., 2021) Alkan, Sevil; Evlice, Oğuz; Ağın, AbdullahObjective The aim of this study was to investigate cases with ocular complications associated with intravesical BCG therapy in terms of clinical features, demographic features and type of ocular involvement. Methods PubMed database was scanned for relevant publications using the keywords. Thirty-seven publications and 147 reported cases were identified related to the development of ocular complications due to intravesical BCG treatment. Results As a result of the analysis performed according to eye involvement, there were 17 cases of conjunctivitis, 7 uveitis, and 5 endophthalmitis. Only 27 (18.3%) cases were of primary ocular involvement and Reiter's syndrome was present in 120 (81.6%) of all cases. Conclusions Most of the side-effects of BCG therapy are minor and of short duration. Although rare, it has been reported that potentially serious ocular complications can develop after treatment. Physicians must keep these facts in mind and be alert to the development of ocular symptoms following BCG therapy.
