Öğe Macrofloral and macrofaunal biodiversity on the shipwrecks of the Gallipoli Campaign - Life on the deadliest battleships(Turkish Marine Research Foundation-Tudav, 2023) Oz, M. Idil; Acarli, Deniz; Kedioglu, Cetin; Ozalp, Baris; Evcen, AlperA total of 127 macro organisms; 17 floral and 110 faunal, were identified by means of in situ observations on 7 of the Gallipoli Campaign shipwrecks. Twenty species have economical value and four species were determined to have been in IUCN List of Threatened Species on different levels. Protection measures should be taken not only for the sunken ships but also for the marine life growing on them.Öğe Marine invertebrate fauna (Porifera, Anthozoa) and biodiversity status on the historically important wreck sites of HMS Majestic and Helles Barges (Northern Aegean coast of Turkiye)(Turkish Marine Research Foundation-Tudav, 2023) Evcen, Alper; Ozalp, H. BarisIn this study, the sponge and Anthozoa fauna on the shipwreck sites (Majestic, Helles Barges), was studied. A total of 24 sponge species and 5 anthozoan were identified, 1 of which Pseudosuberites sulphureus is reported for the first time from the North Aegean coasts of Turkiye.Öğe Pre-assessment of zoobenthos diversity from the only hard coral Marine Reserve in the Turkish Seas (Canakkale Strait, Turkey)(Elsevier, 2022) Ozalp, H. Baris; Demir, Volkan; Evcen, Alper; Onen-Tarantini, Senem; Montesanto, Federica; Erdogan, Sevil; Culha, MehmetMarine Protected Areas (MPAs) and their management have become more significant than ever due to the growing impacts of pollution, overfishing and illegal hunting activities in marine environments. Corals, as habitat forming species that create biodiversity hotspots, provide structural support, shelter and a nursery ground for associated biota. The present paper deals with the pre-assessment of invertebrate assemblages living in hard coral (Cladocora caespitosa) reef in the marine protected area (Dardanos Cladocora Reefs) of the Canakkale Strait. In the study (DarINVERTA7) conducted between 2017 and 2021, 62 benthic invertebrate species, belonging to eight taxonomic groups were reported for the first time from the region of which five species (Clathria (Clathria) compressa, Rynchozoon neapolitanum, Hornera frondiculata, Polycitor adriaticus and Aplidium nordmanni) were new for the Turkish coasts.(c) 2022 Elsevier B.V.
