Öğe Integrating ecosystem services into spatial planning(Peter Lang AG, 2019) Esra Cengiz, A.; Demiroğlu, DemetEcosystem services are an approach which was developed on the economic benefits of the natural capital. The use of an ecology-based term (ecosystem) together with economy may be acknowledged as a method to protect nature and natural resources in today's world because ecosystem services refer to the benefits of an ecosystem and its economic contributions in the short, medium and long terms. Drawing up spatial plans which allow utilizing natural and cultural resources on the basis of conservation and use depending on the planning approaches based on ecosystem services is a quite important approach for the continuity of ecosystem services and to create sustainable spaces. Firstly, the fundamental concepts about ecosystem and the definitions of ecosystem are described in the study. Secondly, the definition and brief history, classification and functions of ecosystem services (ESs) are provided. Thirdly and finally, evaluations on the concept of spatial planning and on how to integrate ecosystem services into spatial planning studies are made and the results are presented. © Peter Lang AG 2019.Öğe Investigation of water process analysis method(Peter Lang AG, 2019) Karadağ, Aybike Ayfer; Esra Cengiz, A.Water is one of the most important natural resources on earth. All living things need water for a healthy and quality life. In this context, the conservation of usable water is very important. In this chapter, the water process analysis method which is developed to contribute to the protection of water resources has been examined. The method aims to identify vulnerable areas to water conservation. In the scope of the method, the infiltration of the precipitation water in the vegetation cover, soil and rock layers are evaluated and are mapped. The findings obtained in the context of the method contribute to the spatial plans developed on the basis of protection of water resources. In addition, these findings contribute to the determination of ecological land use decisions and the determination of vulnerable landscape. In this section, nature-based solutions, ecological processes, hydrologic cycle which are the basis of the method are examined. © Peter Lang AG 2019.
