    Design, synthesis, characterization, in silico studies, and in vitro anticancer evaluation of novel 7-methoxyquinolone-substituted triazole hybrids

    AimsThe quinolone scaffold is a crucial member of the heterocyclic compound family in modern medicinal chemistry, exhibiting a broad range of biological activities. Since 4-quinolones are known to interact with significant drug targets, and due to the remarkable pharmacological properties of 1,2,3-triazole compounds, a molecular hybridization approach was used to design novel 7-methoxyquinolone-substituted triazole hybrid conjugates (QN1-QN11).Materials and methodsThese hybrid compounds were evaluated to determine their anticancer activities in various breast and colon cancer cell lines, including BT20, MDA-MB-231, MCF7, and HT29. In addition, the apoptotic-like morphological changes in aggressive MDA-MB-231 cells were observed following treatment with the compounds for 48 hours. In silico studies, including molecular docking, molecular dynamics (MD) simulation, and MM/GBSA calculations, were carried out for the synthesized compounds against important cancer drug targets.ResultsThe highly cytotoxic agents QN10 and QN7 were identified with IC50 values of 4.49 +/- 0.68 mu M and 19.05 +/- 1.58 mu M in BT20 and HT29 cell lines, respectively. In addition, the morphologically changes were observed on MDA-MB-231 cells.ConclusionsThese findings show that the synthesized click products are highly cytotoxic agents in cancer cell lines and may be considered as potential candidates for enzyme inhibition.

    Determining secondary students’ behavior towards the environment

    The purpose of this research is to investigate secondary school students’ behavior towards to environment according to parameters class grade and gender. This research was conducted with 90 students enrolled in Bozkır Dereiçi Secondary School in Konya in the spring term of academic year 2014-2015. “The scale of behavior towards the environment” developed by Yavuz (2006) was used as data collection tool. The Cronbach’s Alpha was found to be .748. The data was analyzed using t-test in SPSS 15.0 program. According to scale outcomes when compared according to class level 7th environmental behavior points isn’t meaningfully different than 6th class environmental behavior in one way ANOVA. Female students who participate in the research environmental behavior points aren’t meaningfully different than male environmental behavior points. It is suggested that students are informed written and visual media reports and news about environmental issues like climate change, global warming.

    The Effect of Individual and Group Argumentation on Student Academic Achievement in Force and Movement Issues

    The aim of this study is to determine the effect of argumentation on 8th grade students’ academic achievement in “Force and Motion subject” unit. For this purpose, semi-experimental pattern with pre-test and posttest control group was used in the research. The sample was conducted with 35 students in total, 16 of whom were in the experiment group and 19 of whom were in the control group, who were studying at a primary school. The data of the research was collected via Achievement test, semi-structured interviews. The study was completed in totally 7 weeks (in a style as 4 discipline hours in a week).Obtained data was analyzed through the analysis program SPSS15. Wilcoxon Signed Ranks test from which use nonparametric analysis was used for group points obtained from academic achievement test. At the end of the implementation, it was obviously realized that there wasn’t a difference between academic successes. It was realized that argumentation with group was more effective than single argumentation. According to the data obtained via semi-structured interviews, students have expressed that argumentations help to learn, provide meaningful learning lessons are fun.

    The Effect of Science and Technology Teaching Promoted With Concept Cartoons on Students' Academic Achievement and Conceptual Understaning

    The aim of this study is to determine the effect of concept cartoons on 7th grade students’ academic achievement and conceptual understanding in “Solar System and Beyond” unit. The study was conducted with 31 students in total, 15 of whom were in the experimental group and 16 of whom were in the control group, who were studying at a primary school. For this purpose, semi-experimental pattern with pre-test and posttest control group was used in the study. The data of the research were collected via Achievement Test, Conceptual Understanding Test and semi-structured interviews. Data obtained were analyzed through the analysis program SPSS16. Mann-Whitney U test which uses nonparametric analysis was used for group points obtained from academic achievement test and the conceptual understanding test. At the end of the study, there is no difference in academic achievement. There is meaningful difference in conceptual understanding test. It has been identified that application reduces students’ misconceptions that are available, it doesn’t reveal new misconceptions and it has provided students with a better understanding. According to the data obtained via semi-structured interviews, students have expressed that they like teaching process with concept cartoons, and lessons are fun.
