Samplings were conducted with bottom trawl between March2017 and December 2018 at 34 stations. The length-weight relationship was calculated as W=0.0082×TL3.01. Ages wereranged between 1 and 5 years. The von Bertalanffy growth parameters were calculated as L?=34.56 cm, K=0.48 y-1, and t0=-0.01 y. The size at first maturity was 21.9 cm TL. The extended reproduction period was observed (from September to April). The rates of natural mortality (M), total mortality (Z), fishing mortality (F), and exploitation rate (E) were calculated to be0.79, 2.4, 1.61, and 0.67, respectively. The biological reference points were calculated as Fopt=0.395; Flim=0.53 andEopt=0.333, respectively. The length where the maximum yield can be obtained (Lopt) was found as 22.3 cm TL. The resultsshowed that S.solea is under the influence of excessive fishing pressure in the Sea of Marmara.Öğe Analysis of Demersal Fish Fauna off the Sea of Marmara, Turkey(Çanakkale Onsekiz Mart Üniversitesi, 2021) Daban, İsmail Burak; İşmen, Ali; Şirin, Murat; Yığın, Cahide Çiğdem; Arslan İhsanoğlu, MukadderDemersal fish fauna of the Sea of Marmara, Turkey was determined by bottom trawl surveys between March 2017-December 2018 at 34 stations with the monthly samplings. During the study, a total of 61 teleost and 12 cartilaginous fish species belonging to 42 families were sampled. The target, bycatch and discard rates of CPUE were determined as 13.40%, 69.64% and 16.95%, respectively. In total, 53.9% of the CPUE was stemmed from Trachurus trachurus. Mustelus mustelus, Raja clavata, Merluccius merluccius and Merlangius merlangius had the highest CPUE with a mean of 77.63, 71.86, 71.72 and 72.68 kg/km2, respectively. The highest biodiversity was observed in the southwestern part of the Marmara Sea. With increasing depth, the species number of the teleost fish decreased, whereas the species number of the cartilaginous fish increased. The mean CPUE values of the economical demersal fish species were lower in comparison to those reported from other regions in Turkey. Evidence suggests fish stocks with shallower distribution is under heavier threat against fishing pressure. Since commercial trawling is banned in the Sea of Marmara, beam trawl fishery can be considered as the major threat to demersal fish stocks in the region.Öğe ASLAN BALIĞI Pterois miles (Bennett, 1828)’NIN, EDREMİT KÖRFEZİ’NDEN İLAVE KAYDI(Doğa ve Sürdürülebilirlik Derneği, 2023) Öztekin, Alkan; Ayaz, Adnan; Altınağaç, Uğur; Özekinci, Uğur; Çakır, Fikret; Daban, İsmail Burak; Şen, YusufPterois miles (Bennett, 1828) olarak bilinen aslan balığı istilacı tür olup denizel alanlar için son derece tehlikeli bir türdür. 2023 yılının Haziran ayında, Ayvalık/Edremit Körfezi’nde gerçekleştirilen hayalet ağların denizden çıkarılmasına yönelik dalışlarda 12 metre derinlikte tek bir aslan balığı fotoğraflanmış ve dalış ile örneklenmiştir. From this point of view, we aimed to reveal ichthyoplankton assemblages in the Çanakkale Strait after 10 year period. Our findings indicated a 3 oC difference in sea surface termperature in the late spring and early winter compared to earlier studies. As expected, the highest mean abundance and biodiversity of ichthyoplankton were found in the late spring-early summer period but they showed rapid fluctuations even in consecutive weeks. Coastal resident species such as Diplodus annularis, Gobius niger, and Spicara maena were found to be abundant. In Çanakale Strait, larvae of mesopelagic species were sampled for the first time in this study. The occurrence of mesopelagic species far from their natal habitat in the northern Aegean deep sea trench may indicate a change in the region's hydrodynamics.Öğe Early-Life Population Parameters and Hatch-Date Analysis of Sharpsnout Seabream (Diplodus puntazzo Walbaum, 1792) Juveniles in the Sea of Marmara, Türkiye(2024) Daban, İsmail Burak; Şen, Yusuf; Öztekin, Alkan; Ayaz, Adnan; Altınağaç, Uğur; İşmen, Ali; Yüksek, AhsenThis research aims to determine early-life population parameters and hatch date of sharpsnout seabream (Diplodus puntazzo Walbaum, 1792) juveniles using microstructure analyses of sagittal otoliths collected from the Sea of Marmara, Türkiye. Due to these species become prey of larger fish species, their otoliths are mostly seen in the stomach content of predators. The fish size-otolith size studies reveals robust data for estimating fish size from the otolith size. To contribute this aspect, the relationships between total length and otolith length (TL-OL), total length and otolith width (TL-OW), total length and otolith radius (TL-OR) of seven species (Liza sa-liens, Pomatoschistus marmoratus, Pomatoschistus bathi, Pomatoschistus minutus, Synapturichthys kleinii, Chelidonichthys lucerna and Symphodus roissali) were investigated. Species were obtained by beach-seine nets from 12 sampling stations in the shallow waters of the Marmara Sea. While calculating the relationships, linear regression analysis (y = bx + a) was used and the coefficient of determination (R2) was identified. The R2 values were usually seen as high in all equations. The highest values of R2 for TL-OL and TL-OW were obtained from P. minutus, while the highest values of TL-OR detected were for C. lucerna. The lowest values of R2 for TL-OW and TL-OR were obtained from P. marmoratus, while the lowest values of TL-OL were de-tected for P. bathi. This study revealed the first results for P. minutus, S. kleinii, S. roissali in the Turkiye Seas and for P. bathi in the worldwide by means of fish length – otolith size relationshipsÖğe Reproductive biology of Penaeus kerathurus (Forskal, 1775) (Decapoda: Penaeidae) in the Sea of Marmara, Turkey(De Gruyter Open Ltd, 2021) Arslan İhsanoğlu, Mukadder; Daban, İsmail Burak; İşmen, Ali; Cabbar, Koray; Yığın, Cahide ÇiǧdemOne of the economically important species is Penaeus kerathurus (Forskål, 1755), which is widespread in the Mediterranean ecosystem. The spawning period was observed between April and July, and its intensity increased in July. The carapace length at first sexual maturity was determined to be 39 mm.Öğe Selectivity of some fish species caught as bycatch by bogue gillnets around North Aegean Sea(Ege Üniversitesi, 2017) Subakan, Gökhan; Öztekin, Alkan; Daban, İsmail Burak; Ayaz, AdnanIn this study, gillnet selectivity of saddled seabream (Oblada melanura), common two-banded seabream (Diplodus vulgaris), annular seabream (Diplodus annularis) and Mediterranean horse mackerel (Trachurus meditterraneus) which were caught by bogue gillnets with 20, 22, 23 and 25 mm mesh size (nominal bar lenght) have been determined. Fishing trials were carried out in Noth Aegean Sea from March 2008 to February 2010. Selectivity parameters were estimated using the Select method. Most suitable selectivity models were calculated as log-normal for saddled seabream (O. melanura) and annular seabream (D. annularis), bi-modal for Mediterranean horse mackerel (T. meditterraneus) and common two-banded seabream (D. vulgaris). Optimum catch lengths for 20, 22, 23 and 25 mm mesh size were 11.15, 12.27, 12.83 ve 13.94 cm for annular seabream (D. annularis), 11.26, 12.39, 12.95 and 14.08 cm for common two-banded seabream (D. vulgaris), 15.3, 16.83, 17.59 and 19.12 cm for saddled seabream (O. melanura) and 26.68, 29.35, 30.68 and 33.35 cm for Mediterranean horse mackerel (T. mediterraneus), respectively. These findings may help us to understand that using higher than 23 mm stretched mesh size with gillnets which have been used for commercial bogue fisheries around north Aegean Sea is important for sustainability of fisheriesÖğe Some Notes on Morphometry and Population Biology of Shi Drum Umbrina cirrosa Juveniles in the Marmara Sea, Turkiye(Springer Science and Business Media Deutschland GmbH, 2024) Daban, İsmail Burak; Şen, YusufIn this study, we revealed ontogenetic development, length-weight relationship, otolith size relationships, otolith shape analyses, spatial distribution of mean abundance and feeding of Shi drum, Umbrina cirrosa juveniles in the Marmara Sea, Turkiye. The individuals ranged in total length (TL) between 49.44 mm and 128.46 mm, with a mean of 98.43 +/- 5.43 mm; and the specimens were distributed in weight from 1.15 g to 21.51 g, with a mean of 9.63 +/- 1.23 g. The total length-weight relationship was calculated as W = 0.000008xTL(3.0163) and an isometric growth was detected. U. cirrosa had relatively large sagittal otoliths, and the otolith size - fish size relationships were detected as linear. The otolith shape analyses showed that the juvenile sagitta shape indices are relatively the same as the adults. Stomach content of juvenile Shi drum contained mostly Amphipoda. The biological data on the early life stages of Shi drum is scarce, and the outputs of the presented data reveal first detailed results.
