Öğe Benthic mollusk composition of some facies in the upper-infralittoral zone of the southern Black Sea, Turkey(Tubitak Scientific & Technological Research Council Turkey, 2010) Culha, Mehmet; Bat, Levent; Culha, Saniye Turk; Celik, Meryem YesimThe aim of the present study was to describe the mollusk syntaxon associated with Cystoseira barbata and Mytilus galloprovincialis facies, which are widely distributed along the coasts of the Sinop Peninsula, Turkey. Four stations were chosen for each facies at depths of 0.5-5 m, and a total of 32 seasonal samplings were performed with 4 replicate groups between February 2006 and November 2006. As a result of the qualitative and quantitative analyses, the C. barbata facies was shown to be represented by 14 species and 5807 specimens, whereas that of M. galloprovincialis was represented by 11 species and 18,407 specimens. Dominant species of the C. barbata facies were Mytilaster lineatus (56%), Tricolia pullus (18%), Rissoa splendida (12%), and Gibbula adansonii (7%). Dominant species of the M. galloprovincialis facies were, however, Mytilaster lineatus (63%) and Mytilus galloprovincialis (36%). Seasonal water parameters were also measured at the stations. Seasonal and spatial variations in the mollusk fauna were observed and showed the highest values in station 3 and during the summer period.Öğe Comparative study on biochemical composition of some edible marine molluscs at Canakkale coasts, Turkey(Natl Inst Science Communication-Niscair, 2014) Celik, MeryemYesim; Culha, Saniye Turk; Culha, Mehmet; Yildiz, Harun; Acarli, Sefa; Celik, Ihson; Celik, PainarPresent study was carried out, at Dardanelles and the Marmara Sea coasts during March 2011 to February 2012. Ostrea edulis, Mytilus gallopro, Ruditapes decussa, Ruditapes pheleppirnarum and Rapona venosa were collected seasonally along with temperature and salinity. Biochemical composition of molluscs (protein, lipid, carbohydrate, moisture and ash) was examined from the samples. Seasonal values of protein, lipid, carbohydrate, ash and moisture were mean 64.71 +/- 1.31%, 1.86 +/- 0.10%, 24.09 +/- 1.33%, 9.35 +/- 0.26% and 67.51 +/- 1.47% in R.venosa; 55.88 +/- 2.04%, 5.60 +/- 0.19%, 23.43 +/- 1.59%, 15.10 +/- 0.67% and 83.28 +/- 0.86% inR. philipinarium; 56.27 +/- 1.98%, 5.82 +/- 0.34%, 23.39 +/- 1.62%, 14.53 +/- 0.66% and 83.58 +/- 0.59% in R. decussatus; 54.03 +/- 2.82%, 10.52 +/- 1.22%, 22.84 +/- 4.33%, 12.61 +/- 2.54% and 82.45 +/- 1.70% in M. galloprovincialis; 48.11 +/- 3.04%, 8.81 +/- 0.65%, 29.16 +/- 4.62%, 13.92 +/- 1.89% and 82.25 +/- 2.66% in O. edulis, respectively. Consequently, the sampled mollusc species has high protein (40.19 - 67.38 %) and low lipid (1.65 - 12.86 %). There is a serious worldwide protein deficiency problem, so it is the obligation to know about edible species and their biochemical composition. Sea cucumbers have great value because of its high protein content. The study comprises monthly data on biochemical content of H. tubulosa. Materials and methods. Monthly variations in biochemical composition of sea cucumbers and environmental interrelationship were investigated from April 2013 to March 2014, from three stations (Gelibolu, Umurbey and Dardanos) in Dardanelles Strait, Turkey. Results and discussion. Temperature pattern was similar at the stations while salinity and organic matter values at Dardanos was different than others stations. Protein was maximum (52.48%) in March at Gelibolu; in May (52.81%) at Umurbey and (56.93%) at Dardanos; lipid was maximum (1.70%) in February at Gelibolu; in March (1.77%) at Umurbey and in September (1.42%) at Dardanos; ash was maximum (43.51%) in November at Gelibolu; in September (44.22%) at Umurbey and in December (44.98%) at Dardanos. Carbohydrate reserves were reduced due to being used as energy for lipid synthesis in September and also carbohydrate and lipid reserves could be used as an energy source during periods of lower available nutrition for basic metabolic function. Protein, lipid, carbohydrate, ash and moisture values varied depending on food supply and reproduction period and might have been indirectly affected by environmental conditions. Conclusions. The study clearly showed that protein, lipid, carbohydrate and ash values varied depending on food supply and reproduction period and might have been indirectly affected by environmental conditions.Öğe Occurrence of Two Non-indigenous Alien Sea Slugs, Bursatella leachii (Blainville, 1817) and Melibe viridis (Kelaart, 1858) (Gastropoda: Heterobranchia), from the Canakkale Strait, Turkish Straits System(Institute of Biodiversity and Ecosystem Research - Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, 2021) Özalp, Barış H.; Ovalis, Panayotis; Culha, MehmetThis study reports the heterobranch mollusks Bursatella leachii (Blainville, 1817) and Melibe viridis (Kelaart, 1858) for the first time from the Dardanelles (Çanakkale Strait), Turkey. Individuals of these two species were observed in January 2020 on a sandy and seagrass bed of Cymodocea nodosa (Ucria) Ascherson and in groups among the algae Caulerpa racemosa (Forsskål) J. Agardh. Although the Dardanelles is one of the biodiversity hotspots in Turkish Seas and the abundance of marine invertebrates in particular regions is significantly high, the inventory of the sea slugs in the region is limited. This study improves the existing knowledge on the molluscan fauna of the Turkish Straits System, the species abundance in the region and their ecological characteristics. The current finding also represents the northernmost records in an invaded area at the Çanakkale Strait of Aegean Sea.Öğe Pre-assessment of zoobenthos diversity from the only hard coral Marine Reserve in the Turkish Seas (Canakkale Strait, Turkey)(Elsevier, 2022) Ozalp, H. Corals, as habitat forming species that create biodiversity hotspots, provide structural support, shelter and a nursery ground for associated biota. The present paper deals with the pre-assessment of invertebrate assemblages living in hard coral (Cladocora caespitosa) reef in the marine protected area (Dardanos Cladocora Reefs) of the Canakkale Strait. In the study (DarINVERTA7) conducted between 2017 and 2021, 62 benthic invertebrate species, belonging to eight taxonomic groups were reported for the first time from the region of which five species (Clathria (Clathria) compressa, Rynchozoon neapolitanum, Hornera frondiculata, Polycitor adriaticus and Aplidium nordmanni) were new for the Turkish coasts.(c) 2022 Elsevier B.V. This species is new record for the Turkish Black Sea coast.Öğe The seasonal distribution of heavy metals in Mussel sample from Yalova in the Marmara Sea, 2008-2009(Springer, 2011) Culha, Saniye Turk; Kocbas, Fatma; Gundogdu, Ayse; Baki, Birol; Culha, Mehmet; Topcuoglu, SayhanConcentration of the some heavy metals (Co, Cu, Fe, Ni, Pb and Zn) Mediterranean mussel Mytilus galloprovincialis from Yalova (Marmara Sea) were investigated seasonally. The mean concentrations of Co, Cu, Fe, Ni, Pb and Zn in the soft tissues were 4.08 +/- 0.67, 5.54 +/- 0.59, 156.72 +/- 20.18, 3.71 +/- 1.14, 2.92 +/- 0.51 and 106.23 +/- 5.66 mg kg (-aEuro parts per thousand 1) dry weights, respectively. There were no significant differences between the metal concentrations among the seasons (P > 0.05). The mean Pb and Zn concentrations were higher than the acceptable limit proposed by International Turkish standards.
