Arteriovenous fistula self-care behaviors in patients receiving hemodialysis treatment: Association with health literacy and self-care agency
(Sage Publications Ltd, 2023) Bülbül, Elif; Ayvaz, Meryem Yıldız; Yeni, Tuğba; Turen, Sevda; Efil, Sevda
Background: Arteriovenous fistula-related self-care behaviors, self-care agency and health literacy are important for vascular access patency, which is vital in the continuation of hemodialysis treatment. The purpose of this study was to determine the arteriovenous fistula-related self-care behaviors of patients receiving chronic hemodialysis treatment and the relationship between these behaviors and their health literacy and self-care agency levels. Methods: In this descriptive correlational study, the data were collected from 216 chronic hemodialysis patients. Results: The rate of the patients who had good self-care behaviors levels was 83.96%. The sociodemographic variables that were significantly related to AVF-related self-care behaviors were education, employment status and age. It was found that the patients who had had AVF for a longer time had better self-care behaviors regarding their management of symptoms and findings (p < 0.05). As the self-care agency of the patients (r = 0.612, p < 0.001) and their health literacy (r = 0.421, p < 0.001) increased, their AVF-related self-care behaviors also increased. Conclusion: Age, education status, health literacy and self-care agency were identified to affect AVF-related self-care behaviors.

Occupational risk perception of nursing students, affecting factors and their association with occupational accidents: A crosssectional, multicenter study
(Rabia YILMAZ, 2022) Türen, Sevda; Efil, Sevda; Bülbül, Elif; Yeni, Tuğba; Ayvaz, Meryem Yıldız; Yılmaz, Rahime Atakoğlu
Aim: Occupational risks by leading to accidents and diseases can adversely affect the health of nursing students and can cause serious injuries. Therefore, students are expected to be aware of these risks in order to be aware of occupational accidents or diseases and take precautions. This study was aimed to evaluate the occupational risk perception of nursing students and the factors affecting it and their association with occupational accidents. Material and Methods: Study was carried out with 728 nursing students in six universities. The data were collected using “Data Gathering Form” prepared by researchers and “Occupational Risk Perception Scale (ORPS)”. Results: The mean age was 20.8±1.65 (min.18-max.35) years and the majority (82.0%) of the participants were females. Clinical practice areas were defined as high risk areas by the 65.1% of the students. Number of the students encountered any health threatening occupational accidents in clinical practice was 223 (30.6%). ORPS score was significantly higher in women, health vocational high school graduates, students with previos occupational health and safety training and students those who encountered occupational accidents before (p [TR] Amaç: Mesleki riskler kazalara ve hastalıklara yol açarak hemşirelik öğrencilerinin sağlığını olumsuz etkileyebilir ve ciddi yaralanmalara neden olabilir.

Relationship between perceived fear of COVID-19 and self-care management in heart failure patients
(Publishing Office of the University of Rzeszow, 2024) Yeni, Tuğba; Bülbül, Elif; Efil, Sevda; Yıldız-Ayvaz, Meryem; Türen, Sevda; Hiçerimez, Ayfer
Introduction and aim. The fear of contracting COVID-19, which affects human health biopsychosocially, is expected to affect the self-care management of patients with heart failure (HF). This study was conducted to investigate the relationship between perceived fear of COVID-19 and self-care management in HF patients. Material and methods. The study was conducted with 115 HF patients. “Sociodemographic characteristics form”, “Fear of COVID-19 tool” and “Nine-item European Heart Failure Self-care Behavior Scale (EHFScB Scale-9)” were used to collect data. Results. 51.3% of the participants in the study are in the 40–60 age range, 53.7% are male, 92.2% live with their family, 64.3% have a diagnosis of HF for less than 5 years. Levels of COVID-19 fear, and self-care management were found to be high in the participants who are 40 years old or younger, has higher education level, diagnosed within 1 to 3 years, received psychological support during the pandemic process, received training from doctor or nurse about COVID-19. Fear level and self-care levels were moderately positively correlated. Conclusion. During the COVID-19 pandemic, it is necessary to develop effective care strategies to identify individuals with diseases such as HF who should have high self-care management skills.
