The Effects of Ideology on the Literary Style in Literary Works
(Karabuk Univ, 2018) Avci, Yusuf; Kucuk, Serhat; Akgun, Muhammet Alperen
The language spoken by societies throughout their history reveals the reflections about their life style. Therefore, language and cultural interaction provides important clues to analyze the sociological structure of societies. The literary style of an author is influenced by his/her ideology which is shaped by the period, the life of the society and the personal life of the author him/herself. Therefore, it can be said that the literary style is a conversion of ideas into literary works. This study of literary style is investigated within the scope of Structuralism (Saussure, 1949) and the Transfomational-generative grammar (Chomsky, 1964). These two theories are not sufficient enough to analyze and explain the Turkish language system. The critics of these is studied depending on 'the theory of language-thought analysis' (Avci, 2012). For this purpose, the sentences in the 'Grey' novel by Orhan Kemal were analyzed basically on meaning-centered approach, explored the factors that influence the literary style and tried to grasp the author's mentality. The novel is chosen specially for its being a social novel. Therefore the sentences in the novel 'Grey' were analyzed on the basis of meaning-centered approach. The data gathered by categorical content analysis were interpreted. In order to define the features that effects the literary style, the content analysis method was used and the data compared. In this research, when analyzing the language in use and literary style of the author in the novel, it is observed that the lack of deep structure of the novel is striking and it is a kind of reproducing the foreign languages. The study concluded that the author's literary style and basic mentality is not compatible with the society that he/she lives in, he/she leads to corruption of the syntax of the language and lost the touch with the realities of the Turkish society in the novel, as well.

The Role of Passive Voice Structure in Turkish Prose Literature
(Karabuk Univ, 2018) Avci, Yusuf; Cicek, Sema
This research aims to display to what extent the usage of the passive voice structure which we come accross frequently in recent in Turkish prose literature. In this research, the number of the sentences in the first fifty pages of different genres such as novels, stories or essays were examined and the rates of passive voice structure usage in these sentences were calculated. Additionally, the first ten pages of the dissertations were examined while the essays and columns in journals were examined totally within the scope of passive voice usage. The differences and the similarities in the usage of passive voice structure in the works written in different genres, in different times, about different subjects and by the writers who has different worldviews, are compared. The variables mentioned in previous sentence were also examined whether they have any effect on the usage of the passive voice. As a result of the survey, less usage of the passive voice was detected in the writings which centered around events and actions than in the thought-based writings. It was also observed and obtained from the data gathered from the examined works that there is not an obvious difference between the amount of the usage of passive voice of the writers who have different philosophy, lifestyle or world view. Consequently, it is concluded that the usage of passive voice is an individual choice. It is known that Turkish society value the person and is famous for its being active, however the scociety is possibly in danger of losing its characteristics by widening the usage of the passive sentence structures since the event is more important rather than the person in passive voice. Therefore it should be said that the usage of passive voice is not appropriate for the active structure of Turkish society. Moreover, this passieveness faciliates the work of provocators in motivating the society to the negative movements.
