    Investigation of TUBITAK middle and high school students' chemistry research projects according to different variables

    This study aims to examine the chemistry projects that reached the finals in the TÜBİTAK 2204-A High School Students Research Projects Competition and the TÜBİTAK 2204-B Middle School Students Research Projects Competition held in 2020, 2021, and 2022. The projects are examined in terms of thematic areas, scientific language, purpose, methodology, population and sample, experimental materials, findings, conclusions, and recommendations. The research was executed in line with the document analysis. The data were analyzed with the descriptive analysis. When a total of 39 secondary and 47 high school projects were evaluated thematically, it was seen that the thematic field of Materials and Nanotechnology was preferred the most in both groups. When the studies were evaluated in terms of other criteria, it was revealed that the researches were mostly followed in accordance with the scientific research steps. However, it was seen that all of these steps were not clearly mentioned in the project summaries, and in some projects not all phases were included. Therefore, when the project summaries are read, this situation causes some problems regarding the full understanding and evaluation of the studies. It was determined that while the suggestions were not mentioned in high school projects, suggestions were generally included in secondary school projects in accordance with the results. In order to eliminate the problems identified in the reports, it can be suggested that teachers and students should participate in more educational activities related to scientific research and project-based education, and improve themselves by making more practices
