The effects of cartoons prepared by pre-service science teachers on academic achievement and anxiety level

Abstract

The aim of this study is to investigate the effects of cartoons had prepared by pre-service teacher, on their academic achievement and anxiety levels in General Chemistry Laboratory II course. The study was conducted in a state university in the spring semester of the 2014-2015 academic year. The research sample consists of 54 pre-service science teachers studying in Science Education Department in this university. The academic achievement test and anxiety scale toward chemistry laboratuary were used as data collection tools. The study, pre-test and post-test control group quasi-experimental design was used. The research was designed pretest-posttest quasi-experimental. The data obtained in the study were analyzed via independent sample t test. At the result of the study, it was determined that cartoons prepared by pre-service science teachers increased the academic achievement. Finally, it was determined that cartoons did not effect on anxiety levels of pre-service teachers.

Bu çalışma ile Genel Kimya Laboratuarı II dersinde öğretmen adaylarının kendilerinin hazırladıkları karikatürlerin öğretmen adaylarının akademik başarılarına ve endişe düzeylerine etkisinin incelenmesi amaçlanmıştır. Çalışma 2014-2015 bahar yarıyılında bir devlet üniversitesinde yürütülmüştür. Çalışmanın örneklemini bu üniversitenin Fen Bilgisi Öğretmenliği ABD’de öğrenim görmekte olan toplam 54 öğretmen adayı oluşturmaktadır. Veri toplama aracı olarak kimya laboratuvarına yönelik bilimsel başarı testi ve kimya laboratuarı endişe ölçeği kullanılmıştır. Araştırmada ön test son test kontrol gruplu yarı deneysel desen kullanılmıştır. Çalışmadan elde edilen veriler bağımsız gruplar t testi ile analiz edilmiştir. Çalışmanın sonuçlarına göre, öğretmen adayları tarafından hazırlanan karikatürlerin öğrencilerin akademik başarısını artırdığı belirlenmiştir. Son olarak, karikatürlerin öğretmen adaylarının endişe düzeylerine etkisinin olmadığı tespit edilmiştir.
