Bu bağlamda ortaya çıkan sürdürülebilir turizm kavramı, bölgelerin doğal, kültürel vb. pek çok kaynaklarının sürdürülebilir kılınmasının hayati önem taşıdığı gerçeğini ortaya koymaktadır. Bu çalışmada, Kazdağları'nın Balıkesir iline bağlı tarafında bulunan Türkmen köylerinde birincil veriler elde etmek amacı ile gözlem ve görüşmeler yapılmıştır. Gözlem ve görüşme tekniklerinden elde edilen verilerin analizi sonucunda, yörede var olan özgün kültürel değerlerin ortaya çıkarılması ve sürdürülebilir bir yaklaşımla turizme sunulmasını hedefleyen öneriler geliştirilmiştir. Elde edilen bulgular ışığında, yörede yerel halkın turizm gelişimine dahil olmadığı sonucuna ulaşılmıştır. Yerel halkın, turizm gelişiminde aktif rol alabilmesi için, sürdürülebilir turizm gelişimi konusunda bilgi sahibi olması gerekmektedir. Ayrıca, yörede turistlere yönelik olumlu tutumlar geliştirilmesi için, turistin de yörenin özgün kültürel değerleri ile ilgili bilgi ve farkındalığa sahip olması önem arz etmektedir. Burada ise en önemli görev, yerel halk ile turist arasındaki iletişimin temel basamağı olan alan kılavuzlarına düşmektedir. Ancak bu sayede, yörede sağlıklı bir turizm gelişimi mümkün olacaktır.Increasing participation in tourism activities not only makes an economic contribution to regions, but also turns many unique cultural values into commercial elements and harms these values through their consumption as such elements. The notion of sustainable tourism emerges in this context and reveals the fact that it is of vital importance to make many resources in regions, including natural, cultural, etc., sustainable. This study presents some observations and interviews in order to obtain primary data in the Turkmen villages located on the side of the Mount Ida (Kazdağı) in the city of Balikesir. Based on the results of the analysis of the data collected through observations and interviews, the study offers suggestions intended to uncover the unique cultural values in the above-mentioned area and to put them into use in tourism with a sustainable approach. The findings of the study underline the necessity to involve the local people in tourism development. To play an active role in tourism development, the local people need to gain an understanding of sustainable tourism development. Further, it is important that tourists need to have knowledge on and awareness towards the unique cultural values in the area, so that the local people can develop positive attitudes towards tourists in the area. Here, these tasks are incumbent upon field guides, which represent a cornerstone in the communication between the local people and tourists.
