Bu etkinlikler Roma’nın işgali ile asıl içerik ve amacından uzaklaşmış ve sonunda İmparator tarafından dinsizlik ve putpereslik olduğu gerekçesi ile kapatılmıştır. O zamandan Coubertin’e kadar da küçük çaplı etkinlikler dışında tüm dünyayı birleştirecek büyüklükte bir etkinlik olmamıştır. From that time until Coubertin, there has not been an event large enough to unite the whole world, except for small-scale events. So what were the reasons that led French Baron Pierre de Coubertin, the founder of Modern Olympics and Olympism, to this idea centuries later?
