Oxidation of thiols to disulfides with molecular oxygen in subcritical water

Molecular oxygen is used as an efficient oxidant for the oxidative coupling of thiols to disulfides in subcritical water in the absence of catalysts. The procedure utilizes water and does not require support materials and metal salts providing high yields (> 90%).
