Vâlide Turhan Sultan’ın muhallefâtı

Abstract

IV. Mehmet’in (1648-1687) vâlidesi Turhan Sultan’ın 1094/1683 tarihinde Edirne’de vefatından sonra, Edirne Sarayı’nda bulunan eşyaları bir defterde kayıt altına alınmış, ardından Enderûn Hazinesi’ne teslim edilmiştir. Topkapı Sarayı Arşivi’ndeki bu defterde, Turhan Sultan’ın kullanmış olduğu eşyaları, giyim-kuşamı, ev araç ve gereçleri tasvir edilmektedir. Onun geriye bıraktığı eşyaların sadece bunlar olmadığı diğer arşiv vesikalarından anlaşılmaktadır. Defter, 17. yüzyıl saray kadınlarının giyim kuşamı, yaşamı ve onların ekonomik gücü hakkında önemli veriler sağlamaktadır. Defterden, özellikle Osmanlı tekstil ve mücevherât tarihi alanında dikkat çekici bilgilere ulaşılabileceği gibi 17. yüzyıl ikinci yarısı ekonomik ve sosyal hayatına dair bilgiler de elde edilebilir. Muhallefât defterindeki eşyalar, IV. Mehmet’ten III. Ahmet (1703-1730) dönemine kadar birçok padişah kadınlarına, kızlarına ve başka cihetlere peyderpey tahsîs edilmiştir.

After the death of Turhan Sultan, the mother of Mehmet IV (1648- 1687), in Edirne in 1094/1683, the inherited estates belonging to her were recorded in a register and then delivered to the Treasury of Enderun. The clothes, personal belongings and household stuff used personally by Turhan Sultan are described in this registry located in the Topkapi Palace. It is understood from other archives documents that these are not the only properties inherited from Turhan Sultan. This registry provides important data about the clothing, daily lives and economic powers of 17th century Ottoman palace women. It is especially noteworthy to mention that it is possible to reach interesting data from this registry about the history of textiles and jewelries of the Ottomans. Also, it is possible to acquire valuable data about the economic and social life of the Ottomans in the second half of 17th century. The estates inherited from Turhan Sultan and recorded in the registry were distributed to the daughters and wives of the sultans for several occasions during the reigns of both Mehmet IV and Ahmet III (1703-1730).
